Antibiotic resistance has become a great threat to the public health. More than two million people get infections which are antibiotic resistant and as a result, 23,000 people in the US die due to the infections. Many pathogens undergo mutation and as a result become very resistant to the antibiotics used on them. Infections resistant bacterial infections have not only added a toll of death to the human life but also they have increased the cost of living and strained the health care system of the government. Studies relate that resistant antibiotic infections add a considerable amount of approximately 20 million to the US government in the health care system. As a result, the community also loses its productivity and the development projects which could have been pursued with that cash will go idle due to insufficient funds.
Each time an antibiotic is used on any bacteria, the bacteria evolve hence making them develop a resistance towards the antibacterial. This process often occurs at a very high speed. The more we use antibiotics the more the bacteria gain resistance to the drugs to a point where they cannot. With the loss of effective antibiotic treatment, treatment to such kind of infections is often sabotaged and as a result, treatments of the various infections have become difficult or impossible.
Antibiotic resistance has proven a difficult factor in the human health. The diseases that become resistance to the antibiotics pose the greatest threats to the human life. Resistant diseases are often more difficult to treat because the bacteria often changes in form from time to time. Besides these diseases increase the amount of time of stay in the hospital beds which make treatments of these disease very expensive and unaffordable to most people. As a result many people are at risk of getting infected by the diseases.
