My brother, an African-American lad eight years younger to me, has been very close to me since his childhood. He has been my playmate, wrestling buddy, friend all through these many years. Still in his school, he has taken after me quite a lot owing to our bond. I find it to be really interesting to gauge his moods and reactions as I feel that I know him inside out. He is a wonderful person embodying an innocent soul with the zing of the ultra-modern generation.
The lad plays computer games till late in the night for entertainment and excels in it. He wakes up late in the morning to somehow manage to reach the school in time. He hounds the internet in his leisure. Typical of the younger generations, I believe.
Many a time he comes over to my room to start the ‘interesting tales’ of his forte and discourse. However, I being lesser of a computer-buff in comparison to him, take things nonchalantly. But, his bright mind and intelligence is something which baffles me. We share the love for literature and that is a topic of discussion between the two of us.
Not that he is only smart in all this stuff. The lad is very helpful too. He comes forward to help anyone from the household and even the neighborhood in matters of his expertise. His skills are admired by elders and friends alike.
He has this passion for UFC fighting and envisages of becoming the greatest MMA fighter in the entire world. He trains meticulously and playfully shows his shots to me. I remain in awe of his prowess at this young age and can only hope for the best future. I believe fighting makes him feel stronger and channelizes his emotions.
I have seen him in his emotional times. He is someone who tends to conceal his emotions behind the garb of a smile, all the time. On having a fight with his girlfriend, I have seen him cry alone in his room away from the entire world, lost in his pensiveness and sadness. I have seen him bask in ecstasy on the smallest of things. He wears his heart on his sleeves. This quality makes him stand out, at least in my eyes.
He is very caring as a person, considering his young age. At times when the other members of the family fall sick, he makes sure to stay by their side putting aside all his other work. He caresses and chats to comfort. To me, he comes across as quite mature a person. I remember how eccentric I used to be at times in my adolescence. In stark comparison, my brother seems to be older than his age in maturity.
Another very important aspect of my brother is his love for films and music. The lad has seen movies from all over the world ranging from Iranian cinema to Japanese cinema and European cinema apart from being recognized as a self-proclaimed Stanley Kubrick worshipper. He says that he finds inspiration from Majid Majidi and Wong Kar Wai. It actually impresses me a lot as I find him ahead of what I knew of at his age. He has this digital library in his room where he has kept all these films. He says that there are over 1000 great films in his archive.
The home theater exudes the bass and makes the house come alive as my brother listens to music. He has this inclination toward heavy metal. He says it gives him courage, makes him rebellious and ignites his passion. Born of Osiris is one of his most favorite bands. On certain nights I hear the sweet melodies of Denver coming from his room. He plays the guitar and sings songs. He sings in sheer happiness and even hums in melancholy.
My brother has this great love for pets. He seems to be too much engrossed in caring about all beings around. Our German shepherd, Karma, is not the only one who receives his love and care. He is so very caring about the fishes in the aquarium and our Red Eared Slider turtle, Bobo. I remember him crying all day when two of our fishes died suddenly.
I feel he puts his heart and soul into anything which he does. I feel he has this so very strong bond with the little things of life. I see the gleam in his eyes. I see the emotions, the hopes, the dreams. I see the embodiment of a budding soul in my brother. I remain in awe of my little brother with whom I used to cuddle months after he was born. I understand that times change, people grow.
In my view, he embodies the amalgamation of pop culture and the creative realm. He has an innocent heart which values emotions and he spreads the word of love. However, he has not kept himself bound in the world of sublimity. He has blended well with the contemporary ways and is treading on the path of becoming a good individual as he grows up. His politeness, his enthralling skills and unique energy invigorates me with inspiration and youthful spirit. I believe I know my brother very well. I wish him all the best in life. He is a great individual and I love spending time with him.
