The controversy whether John and Fred Carter should participate in the carter racing is shrouded by significant levels of controversy. Either way, both sides of arguments seem to be amicably supported by viable reasons. So the main question is; should the two brothers participate in the most lucrative race? The answer to this question is not determined by fate, but solely lies on the predisposed facts about the race, and the historical precedence that has surrounded the racing car. However, a core element of determination is a viable outcome that will meet the business interest of the Carter brothers in their career, which is just gaining momentum after their significant win in previous competitions. Based on my level of assessment and preliminary determination of the open statements, these two brothers should not attempt to participate in this highly competitive race, since there is room for the next time.
One of the core elements to participating in the race is the suitability of the car for the race. Every other success of the race solely depends upon the mechanical condition of the car, and it is obvious that a faulty car does not perform in such competitive races. Thus, the first condition for these two brothers is to ensure that their car is in good condition, and that they do not have any uncertainty about its condition.
Based on the previous races, the brother’s racing car has had multiple engine problems, where the gasket is simultaneously overheated. Despite their suspicion that the problem could have been triggered by temperature changes of the regions in which they participate; this reason is far from the truth since statistics of the outcome shows otherwise. Thus, an official certification to participate in the race is that the engine must be in a perfect mechanical position.
Considering the cost benefit analysis of participating in the race with faulty engine; the perceived losses in the event of failure is permanent, and could possibly bring down the fate of these racers that has significantly improved over time. Paul Edwards who is the engine mechanic seems to be unaware about the faults in the engine, and skirts around with reasons which hold no much substance. Therefore, losing one shop opportunity does not mean that they will lose their entire trust developed over some period of time. With regards to this statement, participating in the race with faulty engine is suicidal to the careers of these gentlemen, who seek to move further. Besides, insisting to be enjoined in the race, while having a perfect knowledge of their engine problem is an indication of unfaithfulness that might ruin their future chances with other sponsors.
Furthermore, accepting to relax and take a side in this race does not mean that the team will lose its future prospect, but is an acceptance of responsibility that is caused by engine problem. The core drive that a win shall secure the team is a sponsorship of $40,0000 with Pocono for a full year alongside other incentives; this might be lost when the engine breaks alongside losing gas sponsors, which is the most vital and sustainable sponsorship for the brother’s careers. Thus, casting their hopes in this race might bring both losses in the vent that an engine fails, or could only lead to losing sponsorship if they fail to participate. It is wise of the two brothers to shelve their interest from this race; accept to the reality of losing sporadic yearly sponsorship, but retain their integrity and their core sponsors. Losing the $50,000 fuel sponsorship will pork a hole into their career, and this might mark the beginning all most troubles to these two brothers.
Based on the reasons given above, I find it justified that the two brothers should not participate in the carter racing due to the perceived problems that engine failure might generate. While non-participation in the race might come with losing the opportunities engine failure could stall down their career.
