My desire to study civil engineering started when I visited Manila, Philippine for a vision trip in 2010. I wanted to study civil engineer so that I could help developing countries to improve their roads. In Manila, the road system was terrible. The roads in Manila lacked road signs such as pedestrian crossing. I am a warm, sympathetic and heart person. My personality indicates that I am creative and organized especially when assisting people to achieve personal objectives thus my desire to study civil engineering.
The work of Civil Engineers entails; designing, supervising, operating, constructing, and maintaining great construction developments such as ;buildings, airports, sewage treatments, water supplies, bridges and tunnels. Civil engineers therefore spend most of their working time outdoors. The work output explains why civil engineers earn lots of money. The ``median annual salary” of a civil engineer is about $79,340.
However, in order to qualify as a civil engineer, an individual has to undertake a civil engineering course in a ``recognized university”. Further, an aspiring civil engineer individual must take the`` federal engineering exam” to facilitate the awarding of a practicing certificate.
I interviewed Mike Junghyun Park a civil engineering graduate from the ``University of California”. Currently he is working with an Oil and gas company. Mike’s duty in the company is executing and managing pipeline designs and analyzing projects. Mike’s opinion about his career is that in the near future, there will be an increase in demand for civil engineers thus making it a strong career. Mike advised me to study AutoCAD to increase my chances of securing a well earning job after completing my studies. My ``learning style” is visual which makes it easy for me to comprehend geometric shapes, charts and graphs. Visual learning forms an important aspect in my career because civil engineering entails the use of ``charts and graphs” to carry out projects.
My desire in future as a civil engineer is to work as a ``United Nations field officer” across the globe while helping people to improve their structures .I love assisting people and that is why I wanted to study civil engineering. It is my hope that I will fulfill my goal of helping people in future.
