Final: Praxis Reflection: Self- Evaluation
Coming down to the last couple of days at school, we were asked to write a reflection paper on our experience through completing the assignments in Business & Professional Communications. The points on which the reflection will be based are my strengths and concerns, concepts and responsibilities, preparation, and retroactive learning.
The skills that I have gained from the course would be teamwork communication and critical thinking. While working in groups, we have been assigned to analyze Proctor & Gamble as our company under analysis. We did a lot of work together to make effective group presentations. Part of the communicating was scheduling and organizing when we have meetings and our jobs within the group. Doing my pillar crisis management, helped me to think outside of what I knew about the company. Even though P&G has already had a great crisis team, I had to think of keeping the crisis still from not reaching the consumers.
One concern which bothered me would be the difference between the ‘Email’ and ‘Memo’ assignment. Those assignments focus on understanding the framework, recognizing expectations of internal/external partners, and utilizing appropriate standards. While doing the assignments, I could not understand the difference between these two types of letters. Most of the information did not seem different from the other. It became a bit confusing while structuring out the papers, knowing they can not be the same but very similar.
Being assigned my pillar as Crisis Management for Proctor & Gamble helped me to improve understanding of the concepts that helped me understand Business & Professional Communication. Every skillful crisis management manager needs to have effective team work and the best communicating in order to operate efficiently. Communication is a key ensuring that everyone in the team is on the right track. The professional aspect comes when we as a crisis team control the potential dangers/ events that harm the companies name or even worse give consumers no hope in the products.
I engaged in the course material in class via using strategies of listening to my instructor and noting down the information that was on the board. While reading the text materials of the course, I highlighted the key parts discussed and searched on the Internet for more information. Out of class I would prepare by reading the needed materials for the lesson. Additionally, I went to scholarly websites to gain more knowledge and ideas of what concepts our team will pick up. Another way I would come prepared for class was to have question about future assignments in mind just to be on the right track.
If for some reason I had to retake the same course, I wouldn’t do anything differently in the learning process only because the style of teaching was very effective and easy to understand. I would say I believe an A for my grade would be a great reflection of my understanding of the class material.
