The documentary Death by China was released in the year 2012. The movie is based on non-fiction book known as Death by China: Confronting the Dragon. The movie addresses one of the major issues facing America today. The increasing destruction brought about by China is affecting the economy of America. The trade relationship between America and China is tremendously increasing, especially on economic trade. The movie focuses on how the economic trade relationship is destructive to America. China began flooding the United States markets since the year 2001. These were characterized by illegally subsidized products from China. The flooding of Chinese products in the United States markets led to several adverse effects. One of the impacts is the disappearance of more than 50,000 American factories (Sheen “Death by China”). These meant that people working in the factories lost their jobs.
In the modern day, more than twenty five million Americans are unemployed or is difficult for them to find a good job. The impacts of unemployment brought about by flooding of Chinese products has made life difficult for Americans. Americans struggle to get their basic needs such as food and housing. On the same note, America owes the world’s largest totalitarian nation more than 3 trillion. Through several interviews, the movie Death by China exposes the relationship between the United States and China as destructive and broken (Sheen “Death by China”). The problems existing in the relationship must be fixed if the world is to be an avenue of prosperity and peace.
The entry of China in the World Trade Organization marked the beginning of Chinas influence in the United States. The president of the United States supported the entry of China into the WTO. The manufacturing industry has collapsed due to the presence of China. These continue to be a dangerous proposition. For example, almost every electronics and machines are produced in China (Sheen “Death by China”). The global ambition and growing power of China are destructive. China’s economic growth compared to the United States is questionable, especially on issues related to human rights, pollution, currency manipulation, piracy, illegal export subsidies, as well as counterfeiting.
