Ergonomics entail the study and practice of adapting the workplace and work environment to fit and cater the physical, emotional, mental and psychological needs of the employees. Ergonomics is concerned with the health of the worker forming the main reason for fitting the job to the worker and not fitting the worker to the job (Stanton 1288-1311).

5-The Finest Tools 1980 NIOSH
a. The key points from the resource number 1 which is “Manual Material Handling/Safe Lifting” include
• A recap of some of the most common injuries in industries throughout the world which include back injuries and related strains and ligament damage and that they are preventable
• The spine should not be kept straight when lifting; rather it should be maintained at its natural curvature as much as possible when lifting
• Safe Material Handling process like lifting, carrying and putting down
• A description of how the disks, vertebrae and ligaments work together when raising
• Back stressors cause pain and injuries.
b. The Manual Material Handling/Safe Lifting is best for this week since it offers a clear and logically organized details on back injuries and prevention methods.
Benefits of ergonomics principles and their use in workplaces
Ergonometric cuts costs associated with the treatment of injuries. Also, ergonometric lead to improvement in the productivity since the employees are at well-fixed postures, less exhausted and work efficiently. Additionally, quality of products is improved because the workers are not tired fatigued. Ergonometric enhances engagement of the employees and better culture of safety since the workplace is keen on security and health of the workers. There is also fewer cases of absenteeism (Kumar). Ergonomics principle can be applied by training the employees safety, adding more machinery to aid in the production, elimination and substitution of hazards, proper and inclusive administrative controls among others (Stanton 1288-1311).
