Helping out in a nursing home is one of the great platforms where one learns and appreciates the underprivileged or the unappreciated individuals in the society that need our help. Balmoral Nursing Home is dedicated to provide nursing care to seniors with different levels of disabilities (Balmoral Home 1). At Balmoral Nursing Home elderly individuals and those seeking long-term care treatments due to various illnesses are well appreciated and receive the best quality care they can get. An organization such as Balmoral Nursing Home is dedicated to serving the community.
The residents at Balmoral Nursing Home require assistance in different areas. There are some residents that can be able to handle certain tasks such as cleaning themselves and walking on their own but there are those that require constant attention and assistance to handle different activities. What really got my attention and interest is the knowledge I gained that injuries in such homes are a common scenario. In most cases, you find that most of the residents have weak bones, and simple falls can result in fractures and other serious injuries. As such, the nurses have to be constantly attentive in terms of movements of the residents. Additionally, when assisting the residents, I learned to ensure that the amount of energy I use in assisting in their movements is not much as such may contribute to simple injuries that may contribute to additional pain the individuals are suffering.
Furthermore, engaging in talks is an essential part of the process of taking care of the residents. The residents do not get to meet a lot of people, and their movement is limited to the confines of the nursing home. Conversations and encouraging them to talk always seemed to cheer them up. The residents are always willing to share their life experiences and in the process, I got to learn a few things in life that I never really had an interest in or appreciated. The walks are a vital form of exercising for the body muscles as the residents may engage in long periods of sitting down. I was informed by the nurses that it is important to ensure that the residents do not sit for long periods, and I should always encourage them to go for a walk. Accompanying them is important in this walk as they can be able to share what they feel without having to feel pressured.
The experience at Balmoral Nursing Home has served as a wake-up call. Indeed the society requires help especially for those people that are less privileged. Being able to relate and experience the real life situation that is in the nursing home has made me appreciate and value life even more. The elderly and other individuals that are in the nursing homes are still part of our community and society, and they need all the help we can give whether through volunteering or through donations.
The experience has increased my understanding of healthcare law and how it affects individuals in long-term care facilities and homes. Whether a person realizes it or not such nursing homes are vital for the community and the effect of healthcare law on them is tremendous. In conclusion, responsibility is not only to ourselves but also to other people in need, as we may in the future need other people to take care and help us. Responsibility in healthcare is vital in terms of what a person such as me can do for the society to make it a better place for everyone else and a better place to live in.
