I believe that technology is great for present day civilization. Technology provides a wonderful means of doing things to the extent that I wonder how the world would have been without the use of technology. Today, technology makes it possible to find solutions to several problems that affect humanity on a daily basis. The internet itself provides a wonderful too by which people from various places in the world can connect to each and communicate instantly. Therefore, technology plays an important role in people’s life and to the present day civilization.
It is true that technology is a threat to humanity. Most of what we consider technological advancements also has negative effects to the existence of human beings. For examples, the weapons that have been developed by researchers have turned out to be a threat to humanity due to their levels of mass destruction. On the biotechnological front, the genetic engineering technology has led to the manufacture of fake organism most of which have diverse effects on human health once consumed. Currently, big firms have employed the use of robots to support their mass production programs. However, such robots have occupied the places of millions of workers, rendering several people jobless. Therefore, it is true to assert that technology is a threat to humanity.
My role in the negotiation was to be the critic. Therefore, I was constantly involved in looking for the flaws people make in their assertions and provide a critical response to it. My role in the negotiation is very important as it helps to ensure that the team members avoid complacency and antagonism that are likely to arise in such situations. Therefore, I ensure that all the negotiators are within their scope of discussion and that no side is extreme with their discussion. I coordinate with the leader of the negotiation to control the tone and the mood of the negation process.
For the negotiation process to be successful, the negating sides need to be open to ask all the questions without any fear or favor. Therefore, both sides must make assertive claims and express their feelings without being controlled by emotions. For negotiations to be successful, the two sides need to listen to each other carefully in order to avoid conflicts that may arise in the course of negations. In negations, the members must realize and practice the art of give and take by creating a courteous and constructive interaction to create a win-win situation for the opposing groups. Therefore, successful negotiations should be such that both sides have given something and have received something in return. During negations, the members’ needs to be very open minded to help them build lasting and quality solutions to their problems as opposed to poor short term results. Regardless of the differences that emerge in negations, the approach should be such that it fosters goodwill and mutual interests. Therefore, members should be flexible, creative, honest, and aware of themselves and others (Potecea, 2007).
What I have learned about the learning preferences is that people possess different strengths and weaknesses. In addition, I have learned that people tend to associate themselves with the things that they perceive to benefit them the most. I have responded positively to different styles of learning in this course. I have learned that different styles of learning have their own unique benefits that can help the learner.
