The article discussing masturbation among young girls was conducted with a research study. There were questions regarding if masturbation had any effect on the girls’ sexual comfort. The research had conducted an interview with girls between the ages of 16-18 years of age. Questions were asked regarding masturbation, sexual experience, and how comfortable they felt with their bodies. There were approximately 20 girls who agreed to participate in the study. “The study had concluded that one-fourth of the girls felt comfortable talking about masturbation” . These girls have a positive fulfillment when masturbating. The other girls had not masturbated and did not think girls should do something like that. They described it as being dirty and shameful. A few of the girls had never given it any thought and only discussed that topic briefly. The research showed that many of the girls had sexual occurrences, but felt differently about the role male and females play in sexual roles.
I was surprised at the responses the girls gave regarding masturbation. Even though many of them came from similar backgrounds, they had different views of masturbation and sex. Many of the girls who thought it was dirty also had bad experiences with men during sex. The girls who enjoyed masturbating had a more positive outcome with sexual relations with men. The outcome of the research did not have an effect on whether they had an open source with their mothers regarding sex. Their reasons regarding masturbations were focused more on whether they had good or bad sexual encounters. Even the girls’ who enjoyed masturbation wanted to keep it a secret. The research had a diverse outcome regarding the questions asked in the girls’ interview.
The article based on sexual desire relates to women who first felt the desire during adolescent years. Some of the women felt desire towards other women and were referred to as a lesbian. Other women felt desire with men and were labeled heterosexual. “They both felt the same type of desire and knew that was what it meant to feel sexual attraction to someone else” . Some of the women who thought they were attracted to other women had realized that was not true. They had feelings of desire with a woman friend, but later realized there was no spark between them when they had sexual relations. Determining what sexual desire a woman feels depends on the chemistry they experience and who they experience it with. The first encounter of desire towards a sexual relationship can brand a girl as a woman. “The girls first desire and sexual encounter with a woman had branded them a lesbian” .
When I read the article about the desire I was not aware that girls had the same aspect towards desire even though their sexual preference was different. It made me realize that the same feelings can occur even though the partner is the same gender or different. Many of the girls focused solely on their first sexual experience to determine what gender they felt desire for. It made me look at female desire differently because there was no different outcome. The only difference was the gender those feelings of desire was focused towards.
