Short Essay 1
The Federal government could not have their taxes collected, unlike the individual states. This then led to high taxes being charged due to the existence of the state income tax only. The taxes being collected were at a high rate.
Under the Virginia Plan, the local or states were the strongest as compared to the Federal. It was proposed by a representative from Virginia and would have three separate branches of the Federal government that were the legislative, executive and judiciary. The branches were then broken and each given their duty to carry out. There were different styles of selecting the representatives of each branch. This was done internally by the representatives. Under this system, the President was to be elected by a group called the Electoral College.
In the New Jersey Plan, the Articles of Confederation were kept, but some changes were made. The state or local government was still powerful than the Federal. Under this plan, the articles would be improved by the representatives selected who just decided to change some of the rules.
Short Essay 2
The United States should be an agrarian place. People should open farms and plantations. He thought farmers were the most hardworking and honest people in the state. Expansion of borders and creation of more farming communities was also another plan laid out by Thomas Jefferson.
Tecumseh was the leassder of the Native American referred to as Shawnee. The Tecumseh Confederacy was a group of Native Americans that began to form to listen to the teaching of The Prophet who was Tenskwatawa. His message was about the land issues that the American Indians were facing. He therefore, encouraged the people to stop fighting over land issues and to be respectful to their elders. This was the message in his preaching. The actions against Thomas Jefferson and Tecumseh and the Prophet taken by the United States compare in that the Native Americans were drove off by the American army. They did not advocate for upholding of their rights as what Jefferson and Tecumseh wanted.
Long Essay
The economic situation in France was not good. They did not have enough funds for the economy to operate smoothly. They were forced to get the money from the public. The Estates General was called together by Louis XVI for the first time in almost sixteen years to come up with solutions to the problems that the government was facing in matters of finances. The country did not have money, and they, therefore, needed to raise the tax charges. The meeting was then called to discuss how they could raise funds.
This had an effect on the Third Estate that comprised of 95% of the population who pay all the taxes all the time. These are all the taxes set by the government such as the property and income tax. They would have to give more to get the country out of the financial crisis they were facing. The Third Estate did not have enough power to vote since they were outnumbered at the meeting despite all the groups having an equal say. They wanted equal representation. The other groups, however, voted against them. The vote was by a majority. The Third Estate was angry since they had not achieved anything and when they raised a legitimate concern, it was ignored. This is what led to their anger. The decision was reached by a majority, and it was evident that they would lose. They then walked to the tennis court at the palace and took an oath symbolically saying they would not leave the meeting until something changes. They wanted the king to listen to them.
Maximilian Roberspierre saw the first phase of the Revolution as not fair to the people. He wanted to change the system of the country and was very active in advocating for the execution of King Louis XV1. He also fought for the rights of people by actively campaigning for equality in rights of the population and the reduction of prices that were being charged on items. He saw high prices as a form of exploitation of the people.
The Democratic- Republics refer to themselves as a political society. They only support certain candidates but do not carry out campaign activities. They advocate for democracy, for everyone to be involved in the government. They support an open election where more offices are in the government. This is a good move since everyone has the right to participate in the leadership of the country. Democrat-Republicans advocate for ideas that will build the nation rather than people concentrating on political parties. This is my party.
