The two movies have different ways to convey the interest of the viewers. The concept revealed in the movie, “Innocent Voice” (Voces Inocentes) is about poverty that surround in the country during civil war. It imprisoned the humanistic side of war through the eyes of children. The movie is set in a fictional and remote village that is comparable to the real life town of Cuzcatazingo, El Salvador; a real life event describes the political, social, and military combats that happened in El Salvador during the civil war in 1980s. The movie, “Do the Right Thing” probably caused a real public chaos that inflames incite riots and racial hatred. However, the movie conveys emotions and informed viewers the real event of incite racial violence. It somehow suggested that America has its race problem and the moral is clearly demonstrated in the movie.
“Innocent Voice” (Voces Inocentes) showed the social environment in El Salvador during civil war, great economic disparity and uncontrolled poverty. The wealth of the country is controlled by a small elite class that includes some government officials. The movie described the Salvadoran government as corrupt and oppressive way of governing the country. The film represents the insensitive military command by showing government soldiers that guards the town with their bunker directly adjacent to the public school Chava and his sister attended. A lot of barbed wire and weapons visible to everyone and are not supposed to be seen by young children. The oppression to the people is a symbol of injustice; they control the people to gain more power. Guerrillas encouraged morale among their supporters to fight for their freedom from oppression and they shine light on how strongly felt against the government. The force enlistment of all boys to join the military is a perfect example of slavery and child abuse. It is a way of exploitation and terrorizing the citizens and their children. However, despite poverty and war, one that interests the viewers is the hope described in the movie. The scene and setting resembles how hard is the life of Chava and his family, as he grows as a young boy who never lose hope and tried himself to make the best he can do for his family. Chava has become the man of their home, protects his mother and siblings; provides a living on his own special way. A young boy Chava has a characteristic of being optimistic and a loving son and brother. Young love sprout in the midst of uncertainties yet it holds power to survive and surpass every pain that cuts the feeling of every children and family. Still it is revealed that behind sufferings there is hope to free from poverty and oppression. The courage to survive despite hardship is perfectly described in the movie, the strong family bond that holds endlessly unafraid to sacrifice everything for love and to fight for the freedom intended for the people especially the children as victims of war.
The movie “Do the Right Thing” made the viewer shocked about the race problem existing in America during that time in 1980s, the hottest day of summer in Durham, North Carolina in particular. The community is bound with one principle, unity of their belief and vision as one big intimate group of race. The film is believed that it provoked a particular thing that caused a firestorm. The effective character in the movie portrayed by Lee made the viewers feel just angry and very stressed out. Racism is an issue that got the interest of the viewer; the community is entire under the effect of misunderstanding. Racism attributed to people based simply on their race and some racial groups superior to others. Racism and the discrimination are used as power weapons that encourage fear or hatred during conflict and even economic downturns. Like the event happened in the character of Sal’s Famous Pizzeria owner and the Korean shopkeeper with limited English. The scene at the Pizzeria is very disturbing in terms of language used and expressions portrayed by the characters of the film. It described a wrong influence and provoked a strong feeling of disrespect. There is no such restriction that outburst in the event where both party are exchanging their opposite views. They hated each other because of their individual beliefs like skin color, customs, language, or any factor that reveals the basic nature of that person. The scene perfectly influenced misunderstanding, disrespect, and poor values formation. Until, violent reactions occurred in both parties and definitely described whom among them are supreme. In addition, in the movie, the American black community over shown the supremacy they engaged within the area and the inferiority of whites. The burning of the establishment made the viewer convinced that black community disrespect others, as they believe they reign in the place. Even the Korean couple is ridiculed because of language barriers, as they lack ideas in English or limited in English language. One of the characters in the movie, he is a racist, believing himself superior to another person. It made Lee, one of the characters who belong to the black community feel frustrated about the opinion of son of the Pizzeria owner. The opinion of the viewer about the film, it is completely a big revelation how each member of the community reacted during the riot happened. Racism is like a disease that slowly weakens a particular aspect in life that is not supposed to happen. Instead, it is more realistic to accept each individual difference in terms of race, color, and language. No matter what race you belong, we are all human beings; a sensible and unique in all ways we believe we are in an ethical manner.
These two films are of great influence to the society. It described its respective genre with its good representation of the real world where we exist. Child abuse and racism in particular are currently the issues in our society. Films like these help people understand what the possibilities are if these issues remain unresolved. It is for our government to address these issues to shine its concern to the victims that really needed their assistance in support to their sufferings. El Salvador is not just the only country who experienced such chaos and not only had North Carolina experienced the effect of racism. It is time for the government to move according to their will to extend their assistance to those who currently sufferings such burden in terms of poverty, oppression, racism, child abuse, exploitation, riots, and other untoward incidents or crisis economically or politically. Each one of us has to challenge ourselves to reach out and join organization that promotes good will and concern to the needy. Children are the hope of the future, they are the hope of every country around the world, and they deserve to have a better future. Peace is the center of progress and development in all aspects in life. Equality is next to peace and prosperity. Together we stand united the stronger we can endure everything with great pride and honor. Regardless of language, race, and belief, we are one.
