Introduction
One of the recently victorious war movie is the ‘We were Solders’ film. It manifests within itself the attributes and essentiality of leadership qualities in any leader. The developer of this movie is quite precise in his expression and determination to address leadership qualities to the audience. The leadership qualities manifested in the troop leaders is deemed to be the major contributor of the success accrued to the battle men. That is; outstanding leadership will always lead to a worth-while successful endeavor. This paper aims at identifying the leadership strategies that have been used by one of the leaders presented in the film and discuss ways to enhance better leadership qualities.
Ideally, Gibson is the choice leader in this essay. Gibson is one of the leaders who are well portrayed within the movie. He has outstanding leadership skills that grant him and the troop outstanding performances during the battle. There are several characteristics that are manifested in Mel Gibson, who is also known as the Lieutenant Colonel Harold G. Moore (Gibson, 2002). First, he demonstrates what he intends done. That is; he does not ask others to do what he cannot do. Accordingly, he is identified taking a lead towards the battlefield. Secondly, he is organized and ready to develop the skills. For instance, he trains his troops relentlessly with an intention of garnering success and nothing else. Finally, he is a goal oriented.
Gibson directs all his thoughts and efforts towards achieving the desired goal of winning the battle. Most of the supervisory technics were very effective. For any groups to perform, the leader has to have an objective in mind. For instance, Gibson aimed at winning the battle (Gibson, 2002). He had the advantage of being determined. Having goals, developing skills and being an example to others are the most important and influential factors towards the success in the battlefield.
As a supervisor, I would have taken chance to listen to the members of my crew. The command that is impeached in the leader Gibson during the war session is appropriate. However, before making any move, it is important to consult from the members of the crew. It is important to state that the lives are at stake. That is; communication flow is essential (Dolgoff, 2005). However, stressful environments are very influential on the dimension that the supervisory technics take. For instance, when the battle is excessive, and the troop is losing it, the supervisor has to change strategy. The soldiers are forced to act from a personal perspective, to save their lives. This means that it is easier to have a peaceful supervision experience than it is when the situations get out of hand.
Communication and expertise demonstration are among the traits that are deemed important in the supervision. Ideally, having worked in an industrial processing plant, it was easy to cooperate with the supervisors (Dolgoff, 2005). They were characterized by good communication process which demonstrated their ability to handle their tasks. The supervisors are deemed to be aware of the requirements for the industry to succeed from their own personal dedication and appropriate relationship with the workers.
Conclusively, the ‘text book ‘supervisory technique is one of the most inefficient and unproductive supervisory techniques. For instance, a company whose taskforce is very cooperative should not be addressed by the supervisor using the textbook technique. Ideally, the textbook technique is useful when all other measures have failed or if someone is making a bid to infringe the other’s rights. A circumstance where the technique has been utilized has led to the failure.
