Reaction to the Result of Learning Style Inventory
Different people require various learning styles which could be better for their learning development or improving their skills in general. The learning style inventory is a tool that could be used in order to identify what type of learner and the type of learning style which is well suited for an individual. In performing the task or the assessment method of the learning style inventory, I have found out that I am a visual learner. It means I am best in remembering what I read or what I have seen. Being a visual learner means I often think in pictures or in words rather than sounds or actions.
In assessing the result, I have realized that I am learning to what I am seeing and reading than what I am hearing or acting. I usually remember what I have seen. With regards to the learning experience in class, it is true that I usually remember what the teachers wrote in the board than what the teachers speak in class.
This could be the reason why I understand the topic or the subject more effectively using diagrams and pictures. It could also be the reason why I usually prefer reading and writing than listening to the teacher. This could also be the reason why I usually fail at following or remembering verbal instructions.
Another realization to the result of the learning style inventory is the negative implications of being a visual learner. Being a visual learner means I have difficulties in remembering things which I failed to have a detailed visual presentation such as writing. It means I would have to write things down in order to remember the lessons in the class.
It is true that I have difficulties in remembering names of the person even if I am very familiar with his or her face. It could be one of the implications of being a visual learner. I have also difficulties in remembering the task which are only told by the teacher.
In realizing what type of learning style is suited for me, I expect to used it in my writing course as well as to the other courses I am taking. In order to learn effectively in class, I would have to sit to the chair in which I could easily see or visualize anything in the board. I would avoid chairs which are near to visual distractions such as windows, doors, bulletin board and maps. It is also better to organize my learning space or even my living space in order to avoid visual distractions while I study.
With regards to the negative implications of being a visual learner, I intend to read lessons before listening to the teacher in order to understand or remember the lessons. I will also have organized and detailed notes for my lessons in every course for effective learning.
I would also use post-its and to-do lists in order to remind me of the tasks that I should do before going to class. I would always be aware that I have a tendency to forget tasks which I only heard from the teacher. It is also best for me to write some of the things that the teachers are telling which could not be seen on the reading materials.
With regards to the lessons in other courses, I also intend to use the strategies which are well suited for visual learners. For example, in problem solving tasks, I would spend more time in writing plans, assumptions, thoughts and formulas in order to remember the things I am solving. In my writing class, I would use outlines and diagrams before answering the questions since I am best in using diagrams for learning.
