Generation Limbo
‘Generation Limbo: Waiting It Out’ is an article published in the New York Times on 2011. It talks about how young graduates looking for jobs in this downtrodden economic environment, have ran out of prospects. The article says that, graduates from even reputed institutions are finding it difficult to procure jobs in their chosen fields, and are settling for part-time jobs to make ends meet. They are struggling to repay their educational loans, and most of them are living on food stamps.
This article throws light on the predicament of the recently graduated students in this country. Likewise, I am sure that getting a job for me in my chosen discipline is not going to be easy. However, like the students, mentioned in the article, who used this setback to fulfill their passions in their life and their other aspirations, I am planning to venture into avenues that will give me job satisfaction. I am planning to wait out the period of this economic slowdown, and wait for the boom which would inevitably follow, as history has shown us.
However, I also have planned out possible future career options, which might help me out, if this period lasts. These options are those that would not just help me scrape my living, but also would help me fulfill my potential within. According to me, a job serves two purposes in anybody’s life – give financial comfort and help the individual put his talents to good use. So, even if I do not get a well paid job, I am willing to try my hand in careers where my talents would be in demand. I am anxious about my future, given the number of jobless graduates out there in the market. Yet, I am prepared to handle the situation, because I consider myself capable of adapting to my environment.
