Assignment 2: Personality Inventory
The Big Five personality traits is a model that is used in psychology to assess and describe an individual's personality. They include Openness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, and Neuroticism (OCEAN). Each of the domains has character traits that describe it and the individual's personality from a general point of view. I underwent a test that measured each of the domains. The conclusion was that I was in both the conscientious and agreeableness domains with a score of 27 points for each. This article, therefore, serves to discuss the two categories I fit in and their general impact on my future.
Conscientious individuals are characterized as being thoughtful in addition to having good impulse control and behaviors directed towards high achievement. The fact that we are discipline both in action and thoughts is the reason behind our responsible behavior. We are not lazy, and progress drives us. Therefore, conscientious individuals thrive in environments where careful planning is practiced instead of impulsive actions. As a result of carefully planned actions, they are usually deliberate, a product of being conscious with what we do. Being conscientious is beneficial to us because we are able to avoid trouble considering that we are peace lovers. We are therefore successful in most of our endeavors which are also attributed to the fact that we are persistent, and success is our motivation. However, because of our focus on achievements and success, we are viewed as purists.
Based on the test results for the big five personality traits, I am of the agreeableness domain. Agreeable people are compassionate and most important of all, friendly. They do not show contempt or any other disliked and antagonistic characteristics in their personality. It is notable that we are the open type of individuals and keep our tempers checked. We believe that other people are honest, and so there is no need for suspicious behavior. Our friendly nature portrays us as good-natured characters, and our defining trait is cooperation with others. We do not demand favors. Rather we ask for them in a friendly yet straightforward manner. Persons in this category are tender-minded and are usually sympathetic to other people's plights and even needs. Apart from being cooperative, we like interacting with other people and most people enjoy interacting with reliable people. Some of the common attributes in this domain include trust, altruism, and kindness. Individuals depicting high levels of agreeableness are cooperative as opposed to those who are low in this domain who illustrate high levels of competitive and manipulative behavior.
Because of being vast in both dimensions, it can be predicted that I would be an effective leader considering the quality of the traits that I possess. Most leaders have been asserted to be conscientious in their nature where they plan carefully and are generally well-organized. Good leaders are careful when it comes to their work, are detail oriented, and are highly-organized. Because of careful planning, I will be able to handle tasks and responsibilities. It is complemented by the fact that I’m an agreeable person and have the right attitude when dealing with others. I am positive that, in the future, when I serve in a bigger role or position in companies, I will be an effective leader who appraises all options before making decisions. Plus, with my agreeableness, I can cooperate with my colleagues and be a team player where we can enjoy a good working relationship.
