I would describe my political ideology as being predominantly liberal. Of course, in today’s society we are presented with a multitude of very complex issues which make the two predominant political ideologies somewhat of an intertwined grey area, making it difficult to be strictly one or the other. For instance, both political ideologies have different views on who’s rights take precedence in different situations – the individual or the society.
What mostly influences my liberal political ideology is my concern for individual rights, which I think the state should always uphold among its highest priorities. I also believe society should be organized in such a way so that every individual receives equal rights, opportunities, and protections. My political ideology and my personal beliefs are important to me, in the sense that I stand behind them, but I also do not take or hold them in any extreme regard, as I am aware that there are countless other differing worldviews; and as technically no one is inherently right on what the best political system is, taking an approach of compromise, debate and dialogue is always the more constructive path in political affairs.
I think my political ideology definitely does influence many of my everyday decisions. For instance, I am certainly not likely to engage in any activity or festivity that somehow promotes a radically opposite political ideology. Also, I will likely not support a business that somehow infringes on liberal principles, such as promoting hate speech, racism or any kind of act that denies individual equal rights and liberties.
The typology test that I completed has labeled me as a “Solid Liberal”. Even though the results were accurate for me, it was only because I was already certain in what my political beliefs and ideology were. The questions seem slightly biased in favor of liberal responses, so for this reason I doubt the overall accuracy of the test.
