[Title of Institution]
The study is fashioned to find out by virtue of a quantitative analysis whether the current curriculum adapted by universities and colleges offering BS-Travel Management is sufficient to prepare students of the demands of the different jobs in the hospitality industry as perceived by graduates of BSTM, as well as the different aviation companies. Given the nature of the study, the descriptive method of research is the most appropriate design to establish the variation in perception of potential employees (i.e. the BSTM graduates) and employers (i.e. aviation companies).
Descriptive researches are intended at ascertaining the position of the variables with a specific condition in an assigned population(Andres, 2012 ). This is done without attempt to determine the cause and the effect of condition to the population. This type of research provides useful information regarding the perception of the population as well as generating hypotheses based on the findings.
Research Instrument
For convenience and validity purposes, the author of this paper will utilize the questionnaire used in the study initiated22 by Brent Beggs, Craig Ross and Bryan Goodwin in 2008. However, the author of this study will modify some of the terminologies that were used in the study to fit the variables assigned in this study. Minor modifications will be done to the Begg, Ross and Goodwin Questionnaire (Beggs, Ross, & Goodwin, 2008) to make it more fitting to the specifications of this particular study.
Begg, Ross and Goodwin’s Questionnaire was also a modified version of Knemeyer and Murphy’s Survey Questionnaire(Murphy & Poist, 2006). It was modified only to fit the travel and tourism industry. The original web-based survey has 48 items divided into four sections. These sections were 1) role of internship experience, 2) role of the internship agency, 3) intern’s abilities and 4) factors that influenced the intern’s choice of agency(Murphy & Poist, 2006). The items were assessed using a five-point rating scale presented in Likert Scale format, where 1 is represented by an interpretation of “strongly agree” while 5 is represented by an interpretation of “strongly disagree." Cronbach’s Alpha determined that the questionnaire had a reliability rate of 0.91, which means that the test reliability of the Knemeyer and Murphy’s Survey Questionnaire was very strong. Individual sections scored 0.92, 0.91, 0.93 and 0.90 respectively.
