Dear National sales representative,
In the light of recent articles published about car accident involving one of your workers I would like to express my concerns about your working conditions that are getting ordinary drivers in danger. National sales reps should not be allowed to use cell phones while driving. Their business is not worth a single life that could be endangering because of carelessness and not paying attention to the road. Center for Disease Control and Prevention has reported that in the United States each day around 1.153 people are injured and 9 killed because of doing other activities while driving. Among three such activities; taking eyes or hands off the road; are related to the texting or calling while driving. The same center has also reported of yearly statistics that are increasing from year to year. That is the reason while legislation should change in this area. Drivers are increasing the risk factors for 69% drivers in the United States have reported that they had talked on the cell phones while driving and compared to other countries this percentage is higher (Center for Disease Control and Prevention N.p.). National Safety Council (2013 N.p.) reported that 27% of all car crashes were caused while using a cell phone. The number of car crashes because of using a cell phone is the most worrying from all states combined (National Safety Council N.p.).
I believe that even by the Texas law only bus drivers and drivers in school crossing zones are not allowed to talk on the cell phones while driving or texting (National Conference of State Legislatures 2015) also the National sales should not be doing both. Also, when sales representative drive in other states should be advised that 13 states already has a ban on using the cell phone and driving and they should use headphones to talk if necessary but overall more attention should be given to the road.
National should protect their workers with strict banning cellular talks while driving if there are no headphones used. That is how the business would not suffer outside the office and also drivers and your workers would be much safer. The price of losing a good worker or his missing presence at work can also bring you disadvantages and economic loss. You should promote this strategy among the national sales representatives and even impose sanction for not applying the policy. Further on, for every misconduct there should be penalty implied that should be equal to the penalties that already exist in other states where there already exists a ban on this issue. Texting should be prohibited by the policy, but there should be allowance of making a cell phone call but only by hand free conversation.
I sincerely hope you will consider my request and proposal since it is your life, the life of your worker, and life of all drivers at stake.
Best regards,
