“From school yard bullying to genocide: Barbara Coloroso at TEDxCalgary” dedicated to various embodiments of abuse in children and youth. In this video the emphasis is made on one of the urgent problems of modern school such as persecution in the student community. Bullying is more related to the group than to individual activities, and it should be considered part of the social life of the group. Boys persecution is often a part of the social interaction associated with the struggle for power, while for girls it is a source of aggression often is the relationship of affection. In such a social structure we can perceive obvious differences between direct participants and unwilling witnesses. As the persecutors and their victims usually have fewer close friends than other children. The physical characteristics as appearance and physical strength are important, although their importance is often overrated. Any feature of the victim may give rise to abuse.
The formal organization of bullying occurs when there is tolerance for aggressive behavior. This factor causes, mainly the differences in the prevalence of bullying. These differences relate not only to schools, but, most importantly, the classes in the same school, one year may be different from others. Such differences cannot be explained by intra-individual and family characteristics of the students. The prevalence of bullying depends on a variety of school factors, including school administration position with regard to this phenomenon, as well as the opinions of students, teachers and parents about the school as a rather safe place. Differences in the prevalence of bullying in the same school may be due to the position that occupies the head teacher is responsible for the educational work with students of a certain age. At the same time, a specific approach to the problem of bullying, drawn up as part of a school contexts reveals the most and the least likely of the problem, which makes it possible to assess the independent contribution of each of the alleged risks. Gender characteristics of bullying have less to do with the increased aggressiveness of boys essentially, but with the boyish features of a regulatory culture that varies considerably with age. Among young boys physical aggression usually entails unpopularity and social rejection by their peers. In classrooms with a rigid hierarchical structure, the child is forced to play its role of a victim and after the transition from the junior classes in the middle. If the class is poorly structured, the child can break free from this role. Compared with other students, bullies have more friends, the higher sociometric status and aligned with performance rates of puberty, more success in girls. Because bullies choose their friends of the same aggressive, bullying is often a group activity. This further complicates the resistance to it by a single individual, promoting criminalization general atmosphere in the class, school, and so on. Bullying exists not only among children, but also in the relationship between teachers and students. Some teachers, abusing authority, insulted, humiliated and even beaten their students, while others are subjected bullied with the students.
As a result, consideration of the structure of bullying in adolescence, we came to the conclusion that the social and psychological-pedagogical nature of the phenomenon. Accordingly, we believe that the prevention of this phenomenon should include both work to prevent certain behavioral deviations, and work towards the prevention of violations of the formation teams. We can assume that bullying in fact reflect a complex social process of creating a stable reputation. It helps to understand that the causes and evolution of this phenomenon are not limited to the study of the interaction between the aggressors and their victims. Thus, it is possible to develop an integrated model of the behavior of those involved in school bullying process.
