Writing review
One must open up to the vast possibilities using the various prompts that help create ideas so as to arrive at a set topic for review. The opening up of one’s mind helps him have access to a wide point of view, therefore, increasing his chances of having a good topic for writing. One should narrow down to the topic that he does find favorable and try it out after opening up. This summarizes what review writing entails; opening up, narrowing down and trying out.
When opening up one’s possible fields, one must be open minded. The use of lists to help generate ideas is a prompt that comes in handy for use at this stage. In this list, first make a list of things that you want followed by a list of things that you are unable to judge as good or bad. Next, make a list of the media from which you get information including books movies and websites. After this, make a list of things you deem as of questionable quality. These items are later focused on as items of fastwriting, which is another prompt. Fast writing helps one to stimulate his creative thinking, therefore, making the prompt useful in generating ideas. In fast writing, one should explore how his idea of the things listed in the first prompt has evolved. Visual prompts are also as equally important. It becomes of great help when sentences are converted to images and chart. Here, cluster the names of things which you have certain feelings towards then build a web of feelings and details to this effect. A writer can then come up with what he might think as an ideal version of a certain event using the visual prompt. This thought is what later grows into an idea. Also, research prompts come in handy in the generation of ideas. It is important to research what the rest of the ideas have to say regarding the issues one would like to write about. One could get the ideas from the internet, but they could also walk around to get the ideas. This would depend on what the writer finds would best fit his situation.
The next step involves narrowing down. Many ideas are generated in the step involving generation of ideas. However, all the ideas are not equally important. It would be advisable that the writer narrow down to a promising material, one that would not give him trouble in the course of his writing. Some ideas are good at bringing forth the issues that affect the people, therefore, better writing topics, than others. In this case, the writer should discard the less popular ideas and focus on those that seem to be, the better ideas. An example would be, in the case that he had come up with the idea of having movies, the writer would narrow down to what types of movies he would like to write about. Further, he would narrow down to a specific movie upon which he would base his writing on. This is all that is entailed in the narrowing stage.
Step three
Once a writer has narrowed down to a given topic or sets of topics, he is now ready to go forth with the writing process. This is where the trying out step, which is the third step, begins. Firstly, one has to focus on what category of the said topic that he wants to cover. This leads to narrowing down further and, therefore, making the topic specific. Upon arrival at a particular topic, a deeper fastwriting is conducted about the topic of study. This fastwriting is more feelings oriented than the fastwriting done in the first step. Here, the writer should describe what he thinks may be important qualities of his subject. In the case of films, for example, the writer could have narrowed to a movie such as “the hills have eyes.” At this stage, he should be able to tell what emotions and thought are triggered by this movie. The writer is now ready for web research about the topic in question to help make amendments. Conducting interviews by use of surveys could also help the writer identify more facts about his subject. The most important activity here is to experience your subject. Do this by learning what there is to learn about the subject from movies, the internet, and even read books.
Once information about the subject it gathered, one should identify his criteria of judgment. This assists the writer to know what he should include in his writing and what he should exclude. It involves assessing what makes the writer view something as good or bad. Is helps him to avoid the bad influences, therefore, build a strong essay. In doing so, one should identify the audience of his article then review the criteria to see whether it corresponds to his audience. By so doing, the writer can now proceed to writing the article.
