Writing an annotated Bibliography in APA format
An annotated bibliography should be more than just the summary of the paper. To make sure that one comes up with the best annotated bibliography in APA format, the following hints can be very helpful. After identifying a source from the database which is in the APA format, the reader might feel the importance of providing other users with insight on the importance and relevance of the source. Therefore, an annotated bibliography should be direct to the point, brief and contain all the important aspect of the source.
An excellent annotated bibliography should be that which provides the reader with a quick insight of what the source is all about. Providing a brief summary which includes the major goal, findings and conclusion will give the most immediate view of the paper. According to Feintuch (2015), a good annotation must include what the source talks about or the primary argument of the author, then the findings or the judgment of the author. While providing a summary, one must ensure that they do not provide too much unnecessary information that can make the annotated bibliography too ambiguous.
Provide personal judgment on the source
After summarizing the author’s argument and present the significant findings, one should offer their take on the source. At this stage, you should be able to indicate whether the source was useful or not. If the paper was not useful, then where do think the author did not exhaust accordingly? Therefore, it is at this stage that one identifies the strengths and the weaknesses of the source. An excellent annotated bibliography should provide what advice the writer gives the next user of the source or any other person who is doing research on the same topic.
