Communication
Communication
Situation handling is the process of receiving information about a particular situation, deciding the action plan, implementing the action plan, and assessing performance (Wiig, 2002). Communication plays an important role in the entire process. If the problem or situation is not clearly understood then it is unlikely to explain the problem to someone else. Furthermore, the action plan decided upon may not be appropriate in the case of any misunderstanding. This may lead to a waste of resources in terms of cost, time, and energy. Therefore, in order to overcome the problem it is important to correctly interpret the issue. It also requires for all group members to be on the same length as it would help them to communicate much more effectively.
Many of the problems that persist at the workplace arise from miscommunication. In worst case scenarios, people may even be fired as a result of poor communication. Hence, it is essential to have a strong hold over one’s communication skills. In order to make you understandable people need to understand differing perspectives as well otherwise conflicts arise. People must have the patience to listen to others and try to understand their viewpoints and then work towards reaching a negotiation. If communication skills are strong, individuals may be able to reach a rational solution. However, poor communication skills would lead in conflicts. But it must be understood that communication alone cannot solve any problems. Good communication skills along with technical and human skills would help reach a sound solution. People may have an aura and charm to convince others through their communication skills, but this may not always work in their favor.
One communication error that I would like to undo would be; when due to some miscommunication between my group members and I led me to leave the group. According to me, my group members were not serious about the term project on which we were supposed to work together. The impression I got was that they had a non-serious attitude; whereas, in reality they were waiting for the weekend and other term projects to get over before beginning work on this one. If I were able to understand their problem, I would not have taken this rash decision.
