Bible is one of the few books that I read for guidance to take decisions related to my life. It was introduced to me by my mother. I have started by reading the new testament. Jesus is my hero in the bible. His life and teaching inspire me. With rest of the chapters that does not involve Jesus, helps me to understand the social and culture situation that prevailed during his time. Inspire of the primitive and narrow thoughts of people who existed in that time, Jesus was a liberal thinker. His teachings are relevant even today. I don’t find it to be fabricated and they have practical application.
I believe that the Bible was written by humans. Probably historians of that time. I don’t believe in God handing down the Bible to us. Humans make mistakes and Bible is not a perfect guidance book. Its messages should be interpreted with caution, considering the relevance to the time and culture. The fundamental message of New Testament is peace and justice.
Bible is a collection of many books that are categorized into new and old testament, based on whether it was written after Christ’s birth and before Christ’s birth. Many of the books in the old testament are also shared by Jewish religious scripture. It carries the history of Jewish people and informs the readers about their struggle and God’s involvement. More than 40 authors have contributed to the Bible. The New testament has ~27 books. Bible is considered to be 1500 years old. It is very enriching to understand that the life of people who lived then, resembles to a great extent the culture of Jews and Christians who live in this time. This book has helped in the transfer and preservation of culture over the generation. People today still celebrate the Passover! It is amazing to know that we are all a part of a long history. The old testament was written in Hebrew and Aramaic language. It is the language that Jesus spoke. I find Moses and David as the inspiring character in the old testament. God had a biased liking to certain men in history, and why he chooses them over another. One reason for this is that all people who God choose for his mission were obedient to him or became obedient to him eventually. Moses was initially hesitant to accept Gods plan, but when he accepted Gods plan, he became the leader of the masses. The Bible has the history of both losers and winners. The heart of the Bible is the belief that people have in God.
According to the Bible, God created the world using his words. He said earth and the earth formed. This is very difficult to conceptualize. Even Jesus is sometimes referred to us the word of God. The word of God is a very powerful thing. “Through him all things are made and without him nothing is made”. Probably, ‘him’ in this bible sentence refers to Jesus. According to Christians, Bible is a sacred scripture that is inspired and written by God. According to the believers, the holy spirit inspired the authors to write the new testament.
I consider Bible as the oldest self-help book. Though all topics may not be applicable to everybody, there are certain topic which each one of us can relate to. I find it easy to relate to the teaching of Jesus. He never uses a compulsive or authoritative tone to direct people. Most of the time he just answers to people’s questions. His life is his teaching. He is a man of action and a person who willing to die for his words. This makes him the true hero of the Bible.
