The concept of food varies from one culture to another. People consume different products or materials as food; for instance, while certain communities consider snails as important food delicacies, other has a perception of snails as disgusting or ugly creatures that should not be consumed. From a cultural perspective, food is anything consumed to ensure that one stays strong and healthy. For example, I consume milk, bread and fruits every morning to ensure that I stay strong and healthy as I prepare for the day. I believe that food is any safe material that individuals consume not only for purpose of health and strength but also to attain physical satisfaction. That is, any edible product of material that is also recommended by health stakeholders or materials that are not considered harmful. Even though people consume food to stay healthy and strong, I believe that factors that are considered food products vary from one individual to another. People consume different substances to attain satisfaction and achieve a proper health.
At the foundation of the food pyramid, it is apparent that Bread, Pasta, Rice and other Cereals form the biggest portion of daily nutrition that most people consume on a daily basis. Plant or vegetative matter forms the second most consumed food product on a daily basis. Individuals are required to consume at least 3 to 5 servings of vegetables and fruits on a daily basis.
In order to incorporate plant or vegetable products into my daily diet, I would ensure that I consume at least 3-5 servings of vegetable groups. In addition, from the food pyramid one is required to ensure that they consume at least 2-4 servings of vegetable matter on a daily basis. Taking these recommendations into consideration, I will ensure that I increase the daily serving of vegetable and fruit matter; besides, considering that food products such as Cheese, Milk and Yoghurt do not play vital roles as vegetable and fruits, I may have to reduce the daily amounts of Milk, Yogurt as well as cheese to ensure that my diet contains adequate fruit and vegetable matter.
Concerning the mitigation of the impacts of climate change, it is important to consider the access to appropriate knowledge and skills. In this perspective, I will ensure that I engage in education and awareness among stakeholders in the city to inform them of the impacts of climate change as well as the associated causes. I believe that through education and awareness, individuals are able to review their activities, including the consumption and disposal of waste products. This may lead to a reduction of the waste products generated by individuals, hence, influencing systems associated with the generation of waste products.
The other strategy that I might implement to influence systems in the city so that I facilitate efforts implemented to mitigate the impacts of climate change is identification of sources of waste products and the most generated waste products within the city. This approach is essential as it provides a platform for identification of the most effective strategy i.e. waste treatment or management approach that may be applied to foster sustainable waste management practices. I believe that the key approach to mitigating climate change begins with controlling different types of waste products generated from anthropogenic forces, particularly, anthropogenic forces. A significant number of environmental activists have argued that one of the major reasons that facilitate the occurrence of climate change is generation of green house gases from different human activities. In this regard, any effort geared towards the reduction or mitigation of the effects of climate change should focus on the identification of sources green house gases, followed by implementation of mitigation measures.
Regarding my efforts to reduce personal carbon footprint, the major practical strategy that I can apply to reduce my individual carbon footprint focuses on sustainable consumption practices. For example, I can begin using public means of transport rather than using a personal car to move from one location o another. I believe that this approach will ensure that I reduce carbon emissions through fuel consumption. The other strategy that I can apply to reduce my carbon footprint is reducing the amount of electricity I consume on a daily basis; this may begin by ensuring that my residential house is properly ventilated to allow for maximum use of natural light during the day.
Besides, I can ensure that unused electrical appliances are switched-off on a daily basis, particularly, television sets, radios et cetera. The other approach I can apply to reduce my daily carbon footprint is using sources of energy that have do not emit green house gases including carbon. For example, I may have to install solar panels in my house to reduce the amount of gas or electric energy consumed; also, I may be compelled to engage in proper waste management activities, i.e. recycling certain waste products or re-using waste materials.
