The black man requires support and protection from these factors that continue to discredit his efforts towards his responsibilities in the family and the society.

Alexander also uses known historical cases to provide evidence to her claims. Alexander’s ethos include the fact that racism is a generally accepted part of the society and people believe that they are different from other races. Similarly, Alexander utilizes the position of people like Oprah Winfrey and Barak Obama to make meaning of their quotes and understanding of her argument. By quoting people who have a history with the issue, Alexander used their knowledge and learned position as ethos. Finally, to make up for pathos in her argument, he sides with the black men and shows how they have been discriminated against and how people should not judge them. Rather, she seems to call for people to help the black men and support them. She brings to light the troubles that the black men go through in order to evoke the emotion in the readers. This way she brings pathos to her claims and makes the reader want to support, agree, and side with her.
