Healthcare professionals have got an obligation of ensuring that future care providers can provide high quality, safe and patient centered care to patients by taking into account the need for incorporating effective communication and collaboration in their practice. Baccalaureate education ensures that care providers can enter the profession ready to provide their services in a proper manner by employing proper communication skills and confidence (AACN, 2008). As such, there is the need for developing interprofessional education in nursing institutions as it encourages the development of trust and respect for all individuals involved in the process of care provision. This essential is vital as it helps the graduating nurse to understand their roles and how they compare with other professions, employ proper negotiation skills in the process of care provision, and demonstrate teambuilding strategies all of which are crucial for delivering high quality care to patients (AACN, 2008). Employing interprofessional collaboration and communication is essential in the process of care provision as it ensures that the navigation of complex systems is simplified and a relationship which takes into account the sharing of knowledge and skills has been built.
For a future nurse, the fact that such an individual is in constant contact with patients on a day to day basis means that they are better placed to customize a form of care that such a client will appreciate. As such, it will be imperative for such a care provider to share information with other healthcare practitioners like physicians regarding the patient since this move will assist them in coming up; with the most appropriate plan of care which will be suited for that particular patient (Brock et al., 2013). Additionally, by these two sets of healthcare professionals working together, a sense of respect and mutual trust will be created with the overall objective of achieving desirable outcomes on the patient.
