Proposal Discussion
The original project idea has not improved much except for the incorporation of some ideas borrowed from the feedback received from other class members. One of such ideas is the proposal to design two different waste containers: one for storing degradable wastes and another for storing non-biodegradable waste. Every household in the area targeted by the project will be given the two containers and the members of the household informed of what kind of waste to put in each one of the containers. Besides, every household will be issued with a list of wastes classified into biodegradable and non-biodegradable. This approach will make the work easy during collection of the wastes from the households.

Project Goals and Outcomes
The proposal on waste management and production strives for optimum waste recovery by recycling, vermin-culturing, reusing, composting while at totally zero waste disposal into landfills, as well as, dump yards. Therefore, the long term goal of the proposal is to facilitate the reduction of environmental degradation that is primarily caused by waste products.
Minimization of waste which need to be disposed-off in various centralized landfills consequently extending the capacities of the available landfills.
Reduction of the environmental impacts, especially in the points of disposal.
Benefitting the soil through the utilization of organic compost in place of chemical fertilizers.
For the attainment of the outcomes above, the following steps are necessary to be undertaken:
Training- every employee and volunteer in the project will undergo broad training in regards to the waste management encompassing the spheres of deteriorating environment, human health, treatment, as well as, waste management.
Segregation of waste products at the source- this will be attained by segregating the wastes into biodegradable and the non-biodegradable wastes and consequently segregating them into domestic hazardous, recyclable and lastly non-recyclable.
Collection- the waste will be collected from common areas such as households and then transported to the dumping sites.
Conducting information, as well as, awareness campaigns- this will be done to encourage the community to participate fully in the project.
Lasting Impact & Maintenance Plan
If the waste production plan is run properly, then it will make an immense contribution towards a cleaner natural environment while at the same time maintaining pure ground, as well as, surface water, clean air and also healthy soils. Worth noting is that a clean natural environment will be of benefit to everyone in the society as the livelihoods of several people often depend on the resources that are locally available. Upon the completion of the grant period, hopefully the government will have taken up the initiative of keeping its environment cleaner thus fully financing the project. Notably, the project will depend on volunteers for the facilitation of the activities of the project, both in terms of owning the equipment and conducting maintenance activities periodically. Roadblocks encountered while preparing the section on Project Goals and Outcomes and Lasting Impact & Maintenance Plan
While preparing the section on lasting impact and maintenance, it was difficult to identify how the project would continue after the phase of implementation by the students ends. This difficulty arose from the fact that the initial plan did not provide a framework that would guide cooperation with the government. While developing the section on project goals and outcomes, I encountered difficulty in deciding on the timelines for the project.
