The topic “Gender differences in the long-term association between Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and depression symptoms,” is of interest to me because it occurs in our day-to-day lives. PSTD is a serious disorder that occurs after a traumatic event. PSTD occurs to both children and adults depending on the situation involved. Another interesting thing about the topic is that PTSD and depression are comorbid, which means that they occur simultaneously in an individual. The topic gives one understanding on how to link the PTSD symptoms and the onset of depression. Hence, the topic enables one to acquire knowledge concerning the relation between PSTD and depression (Horesh).
The topic of PTSD and depression is still shallow and more research should be done on it. This means that advanced research on the topic can give one an opportunity to explore it further. Moreover, the PTSD and depression topic enables interested individuals to research more on its symptoms and how to cure it.
The study of PTSD symptoms and depression fits into the theories discussed and the examples given in class. The study is related to psychology because it is associated with trauma, which is involved with the effects of physical and emotional of life. Since Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is an anxiety disorder that occurs after a traumatic event, it increases the depression rates (Horesh). In class, we learned about how psychology affects our brains and how it can be understood. On the other hand, trauma imprints itself into our minds and can greatly affect us.
In my perspective, the reasoning behind the hypothesis of this study seems sound in terms of research. But, much research needs to be carried out in this field. Considering the literature used and the research done, advanced research needs to be done. The study covers a wide area and hence, its research is shallow. On the previous research, many people did not understand PTSD symptoms and depression, but thanks to continual research, it seems understood.
According to me, I believe the methods used to select participants are great. The idea of choosing one individual per household is quit creative and can enable the one carrying out the statistics to obtain variety of results. The data collection was effectively done because it is not influenced by age, race, educational attachment, gender, and income. This means that the data collected occupied a wide range of individuals. The use of data analysis methods included the qualitative method and the quantitative method. The data analysis carried out on the data collected is great. There is nothing I would have done differently in selecting the participants, data collection, and carrying out data analysis. The sample of participants represents sample of the population being studied.
The conclusion seems fine because it covers what was carried out in the entire research. It includes the overall information obtained for symptoms of PTSD and depression. The conclusion also has the importance of the entire research.
In my opinion, the result obtained in this research will provide an easy future advancement of this study. The result obtained from this study can be used to identify PTSD symptoms and depression. Clinical setting can use this research in identifying various symptoms of PTSD and depression. The research carried out will influence my work in trauma exposure in a great way.
If I had the time, money, and resources, I would carry out an experiment on how to recover after a trauma. I would do this by using people, who are traumatized or having PTSD and depression.
