The comparative religion course helped me understand more about the religions of the world. Commonly, religion is one of the emotive issues in the current world, and religious tolerance has been hard to attain in recent years (Kettell 539). The course offered an effective approach to understanding that all religions stem from the same basis, and that the prevailing differences can are easy to overcome. Comparative religion details the varied philosophical views that define modern worship. The lessons I learned from the course will change my views on religion positively. Through the course, I believe that I will be a better minister and I will effectively address the challenges and differences that define religion in a religiously intolerant modern world.
I liked the way the course analyzes all forms of religions that the world’s societies acknowledge. The course identifies the various issues that have always been hard to understand from a religious perspective. I liked the way the course analyzes all the issues of religion and explains the major points that if understood well, the prevailing religious differences could be avoided significantly. The course also instilled in me the discipline that is required when explaining the various issues of religion. I liked the course even more because it opened and extended my understanding on the history and the progress that religion has made from past years to the present and it detailed what is expected into the future.
In as much as I enjoyed studying the course, I somehow disliked some of the lessons that it presented. For instance, the course dwells so much on the theoretical aspects and merely touches on the practical issues that define modern religious beliefs. The course explores past philosophies and somehow neglects the views and beliefs that people have developed in regard to religion in the modern days. Additionally, the course employs complex terms and phrases, which make it hard to understand the complex religious issues. The course focuses on the historical contexts of religion instead of explaining the obvious issues of religion, especially those that have led to the prevailing religious intolerance. Besides, the course also fails to offer direct resolutions to the current situation concerning religious differences in the modern world.
The discourses that were identified could be improved if the course offered realistic and easy to understand approaches to solving religious conflicts. Apparently, by narrating the religious issues and philosophies from the past, the course provides the basis for understanding the root causes of the current religious conditions in the world. The course fails to discuss in detail the current religious problems and that could be improved by studying the prevailing religious situation and linking it to the provided philosophies and historical perspectives in seeking sustainable solutions to the problem of religious intolerance in the world. The discourse could also be improved if the paper was to focus on seeking solution to religious extremism and hard stances among adherents of various religions. Importantly, the discourse could be improved if the course was to focus on the linkage between society, religion and the economic and political conditions of the modern day.
Comparative religion is a course that offers an opportunity to understand the real issues from the past, the present and the future of religion. The course compares the philosophies of various religions, which is a vital step in eliminating the religious differences of the modern world. The course enhanced my abilities to relate with all the religions and the teachings that identify them. As a scholar, I aspire to study more into the lessons that I have learned in this course, an undertaking that I believe will go a long way in helping me understand more about all the religions in the world.
