QUESTION 1:
According to Crawford (2003), the cost of healthcare imparted to patients has been adjusted to decrease while maximizing the quality of outcome. There were certain issues that were identified by Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO) included entry level education to the profession, sub-specialization, dynamism of role in institutional and primary care, ethical issues in decision-making, professional privileges and accountabilities and sufficiency of the nursing workforce. I see myself as a ward leader and even more in the next few years. I have always listened to my clients and have been compassionate to them. I could keep my options open and may specialize further, in particular age group nursing to maximize the gaze of my care.
QUESTION 2:
According to compassion in practice (2012) published by Department of Health and National Health Services, United Kingdom (NHS), the skills required by a nurse should include making the 6Cs; Care, compassion, competence, communication, courage, commitment, delivery of change by front running staff members, demonstration of leadership at every stage of care, training and growth of every staff member based on 6Cs, appropriate culture generation, communication of nursing vision, achieving milestones not as an individual but in collaboration, promoting mutual well-being and respect, knowledge transmission to patients and co-workers and minimizing bureaucracy. I can keep myself well aware by keeping my practice on core foundation of research and evidence based medicine. It can be achieved through continued medical education and training workshops.
QUESTION 3:
As Guyton (2012) mentioned, I also will base my nursing leadership goals based on following:
As a leader I will be dedicated and solely devoted to my passion and purpose transforming them into perseverance. I would aspire to do everything with a smile on my face and a determination in my heart.
I would judge myself based on the satisfaction showed by the patients, which essentially equals staff satisfaction. I will incorporate proper satisfaction measurement tools and brief staff about it from time to time. This will fundamentally span the core principles of managerial routine which includes quality, people, finance and growth.
I will try to inculcate a better culture in the office environment where services are rendered. Staff will be told to use scripts and prompts while answering phone calls. I will prove for them to be a servant-leader role model.
I will work on making the work environment enjoyable to work. I will spend time on knowing my staff, celebrate their achievements as a team and as an individual and focusing on building a lasting relation.
I will preach and promote accountability. I will start it from my own existence to keep the procedure transparent and just.
I will learn and teach to communicate at all levels. Our work enables us to work as a multi-disciplinary team. Effective and prompt communication is the key while working in such an environment.
As a leader, I shall always keep my eyes open to look and recognize the success or achievement and then reward it accordingly. This will create a joyful, creative and motivational work environment.
QUESTION 4:
Nursing education provides the edge and the platform for individuals to implement and incorporate the basic managerial and moral principles at their workplace. I am currently working as a staff nurse at a hospital with my bachelors and I am currently enrolled to complete my Masters degree. I wish to keep myself well informed through various education, skills and technology delivery channels. Their warmth and feelings for mankind are rewarded when they see their patients satisfied. In the future, the population is to be increased which creates a drastic increase in demands of health practitioners and nurses. They show compassion and sheer care to the diseased with a smile on their face.
