There are several issues relating to the topic different learning strategies that are considered to be effective in a mixed ability teaching setting such as the ability of every teacher to reach all of their students.
It is always a challenge to reach all their students since each one of them have a different way of learning, progress in learning and variance in speeds. There are some students who consider learning task to be easy handle. On the other hand, there are other students who have a difficulty in understanding the lessons. Learning is subjective in the sense that each student comes from a different background, nation, family, and environment. It is a stumbling block for the teachers to reach the students inside the class since they come from multi-cultural populations that can result to ineffective learning.
Such topic is important in education since it is hard for the teachers to monitor the progress of each of their students and to know if they are able to follow instructions easily and to provide for their needs in various methods to be able to achieve effective teaching. It is important to look for various strategies to enhance the learning ability of the students by using group or pair-work activities to allow the students to learn from each other and promote cooperation among them. Through such activities, the teacher will be able to identify the strong students to help the weaker students. At the same time, the strong students may become a source of language or knowledge from the group.
The keywords to be used in the dissertation are: learning strategies, mixed ability, effective teaching, language and knowledge.
The plan of action in order to link the literature review with my own reflection from teaching is by identifying the problems encountered by teachers in mixed ability class and how to deal with them accordingly. Part of my personal reflection is how to attain my objective to ensure that all students will be able to perform to their maximum potential. Through this dissertation, the teacher will be able to look for new ways on how to express their thoughts, ideas, emotions and feelings.
