United States is one of the strongest economies in the world. However, there may be some problems that the country faces. In his article, Thomas Heffner (2012) began his analysis by stating that the country is facing an economic issue that not so many countries have experienced. Mainly, he argues that there are many indicators that the country is under the economic crisis, which many people are unaware. Such economic status may have not been observed by many of us because of our superpower mentality. His assertion may be correct as many people may not be aware that a powerful country may also be affected by the economic crisis, which normally happens in every nation.
We learned from his article that the country is importing goods more than what it needs to export in addition to the reality that many people are selling off their assets so as to sustain their lifestyle, which they no longer afford (Heffner, 2012). This claim is in contrast to a superpower country’s way of sustaining domestic self-sufficiency. He also added that many foreign trade practices affect the country’s economy as many jobs were being outsourced in favor of the third world market in exchange for lower labor cost.
Heffner’s article generally depicts an economic trend in the United States in which becomes a major aspect of the issue. It is a trend that might influence the country towards a worse economic practice, which many people are unaware.
This article briefly explained the factors that contribute to the country’s economic problems. The author has clearly indicated specific practices that need a considerable change so that the United States could benefit from its own resources such as the workforce, capital, skills, and knowledge. On the other hand, it could have been a better article if the author included statistical results of his study in a way that numbers will further strength his claims.
