The article addresses the huge success achieved by Wellington Airport in terms of growth in revenues and increase in the number of both international and domestic passengers. International passengers volume at the airport grew by 16 % while domestically, there was an increase in the volume of passengers by 4.6 % hence contributing to 29 % increase in annual profits. Such trends are an indication of the effectiveness of the functional operations at the airport. The most interesting thing is how the airport achieved a higher growth margin in a year since not many organizations have the capacity to do so. It is additionally significant to note that domestic passenger volume for the year was 4.9 million thereby proving that the airport effectively functions to address the needs as well as expectation of local travellers.
It is also interesting to note that effectiveness in management has contributed to the airport expanding its services to accommodate flights by Fiji Airways, Jetstar and Qantas thereby implying that New Zealand is becoming a major regional and international hub. The expansion plans for the airport are also important since they are aimed at expanding both domestic and international terminals with the objective of sustaining higher profit margins. The implication of the growth is that the government generates revenues that could be utilized in bettering the society’s welfare in terms of provision of social program.
Additionally, expansion plans imply that investment opportunities across Wellington will increase thereby spurring the economy of New Zealand. Moreover, accommodating more international travellers is also important economically given that it plays a part in the growth of varied segments of the economy like hospitality and tourism industry that are key to improving the economy of the nation.
