The book by Bob Nelson thrives to give morale to employees and educate them on the best ways they could be successive in the places of work. This book is like a handbook designed for employees who seem to be frustrated at their places of work. This book educates the employees of four critical issues: reasons as to why employees should always seek initiative; why the employees should seek to do more at work that is required of them; giving a tip to the employees on the benefits of volunteering at work; most importantly how to develop, plan and implement good ideas at the work place.
With the harsh economic times we face, most firms are downsizing leading to unemployment of many with job opportunities hard to come. With this reason, it is up to the employees to try making themselves important to the company to avoid being laid off at any time. This is what this books thrives to achieve by giving ideas to employees on how to retain their jobs as well as to increase their chances of promotion in the workplace.
In the book he is seen suggesting ways as to how employees could gain advantage over their fellow employees. These ways include: Making ones job more difficult; develop a good reputation in one’s department; making oneself flexible to the superiors; and finally to ask silly question. The book focuses on these four approaches and circles around them giving various examples and scenarios so as to enable the reader be in a better position to implement these suggestions.
