Generations of the humanity are categorized into various groups according to character and the behavior that seems to be shared by the particular group. For instance, there are Boomers who were born between 1946 and 1964, X generation born between 1969 and 1979. The millennial were born between 1980 and 2002. The composition of every group constitute of various factors. For instance, the boomers were brought up in the post-war era, with a lot peace and stability. Therefore, their behavior is outstanding as compared to other groups. This is supported by the following low divorce rat, responsibility conscious and organizational growth-oriented.
The boomers and the X generation have a strong sense of organizational growth. There is certainty of organizational productivity by involving the boomer and X generation the workforce. Most of the reputable institutions prefer the two generations due to their creativity associated with them. It is prudent for the organization to seek for a generation with high productivity in the workforce to enhance high profitability of the organization. Contrary to the Millennials, their expectation is more inclined in the personal achievement than the overall organization growth. They are more focused on their person interest as compared to the values of the organization. Recent research shows that the millennial are stable in term of job satisfaction. They tend to seek for more opportunities despite having their current position in the organization. It implies that the Millennials are not focused on the organizational goals and objective but rather on their personal actualizations (Oliver, 567).
The boomer shares the day to day experiences and expectation among themselves. The boomer’s ability to settle down is brought about by the manner they were brought up, in a stable environment previously under war. Since they were born in a post-war era, they were brought with a mood of bringing a new era of building the world rather than engaging in war. This is the main contributing factor of the boomers being organizational oriented and generally stable, responsible, focused and developmental oriented.
Generation X is open minded individuals who are open to any opportunity in other groups. Just like the boomers they are loyal to any organization that seemed to satisfy their dreams or needs. They are quite flexible and outgoing, they can change their jobs nine times before settling down, this outgoing character, supplemented by aggressiveness and entrepreneurial oriented, they are against being servants to their bosses or organizations, instead they work towards being more independent and detached from control by anybody. The X generation are not ready to do what their fathers did but instead they what to built their own empires rather concentrating on developing the organizational goals. They hardly build a relationship with supervisors and workers, since they are not actually settled in their minds on whether to stay or not (Oliver, 576).
The Millennials are not in agreement with the boomers and the X generations, they seem to be more focused on reviewing upwards what the Xers and boomers did. The Millennials are more independent and ready to plan, strategize and live their own independent life. This particular group is team oriented, although the relationship is not based on people but on the tasks that are being accomplished. Millennials is optimistic in life and always has positive attitude towards life, although their optimism is mostly focused on their self-assessment rather than the aggregate organizational goal. Their behavior is unique compared to practices of the previous generations, for instance they participate in apolitical process not because of patriotism or to choose a good leader but because they are interested in a particular leader in the political process. Right from clothing the kind of the songs/music they are listening it distinguishes them form the Xers. These signals about the expectations of a Millennials that is optimism and hope of better individual life not about the organization or country, they have come in the world when already a lot of things are invented such as phones, computers, cars and many techno-devices. They are in believed that they can work for short term and get a big pay off long term. The time they are brought is very competitive and therefore they are very aggressive and ready to conform to whichever outcome comes on their way,
The issues that are of conflicts between the groups are the individual life and the service to the organizations. Boomers are of the idea that organizational loyalty is essential to individual growth while the Xers and the Millennials are of the contrary idea of focusing on where your dreams will be achievable in life. Another point of contention is the fact social life, the boomers and the Xers are highly frustrated by the social behaviors such as instant messaging, downloading music, and calling friends. Millennials are short span oriented and this is one of the fundamental frustrations towards the boomers and Xers generation. It is agreeable that the Xers behavior is a counter behavior tactics that help the supervisors of employees from different generations are likely to have a hard task of coming up with a precise mechanism and strategy of factoring the difference in perception among the employees
