Centrophenoxine, also known as Lucidril or meclofenoxateor, combines PCPA (paracholrphenoxyacetic) and DMAE (dimethylaminoethanol) (Antiaging-systems.com, 2014). Recognized as one of the original drugs combat aging, Centrophenoxine was found from early animal studies to reduce lipofuscin levels (South, 2014). Europeans use the drug to promote brain energy, or neuroenergizing, with glucose uptake (Eternity-medicine.com, 2014). It is cholinergic, promoting absorption of DMAE (Examine.com, 2014).
Applications
Centrophenoxine is an over-the-counter oral supplement recommended for prevention and treatment of senile dementia, notably Alzheimer’s disease; it can also be effective for correction of cognitive decline and loss of memory (Marcer and Hopkins, 1977). There are also indications Centrophenoxine is effective for ADHD (Nootropics, 2014).
Method of Action
Lipofuscin levels, essentially accumulated potassium, are reduced. Studies have shown a correlation between low lipofuscin levels and optimum cellular function (Antiaging-systems.com, 2014). The primary fuel used by the brain is neuronal glucose, which is increased by Centrophenoxine. In addition to increasing the uptake of oxygen and production of carbon dioxide, the drug promotes RNA, protein, and other essential chemicals in the brain. DNA in the nucleus of the cell provides RNA which allows neurons to provide memory encoding and damage repair of brain cells.
Dosage and Suggested Usage
Recommended dosage for young, healthy adults is one or two 250 mg tablets daily. Elderly adults in the process of mental deterioration may required three to six 250 mg tablets daily. It is recommended intake coincide with breakfast and lunch to prevent problems sleeping.
Side Effects
Acetylcholine excess may result in muscle tension in the neck, jaw, or shoulders (Nootropics, 2014). Side effects may be prevented by taking breaks occasionally of once weekly. If dizziness, hyperexcitability, headache, restlessness, issues with the gastrointestinal tract, problems sleeping, nausea, or irritability occurs, cessation of Centrophenoxine for a few days should stop side effects. Treatment can continue with a smaller dosage.
Studies
Dr. Raymond Bartus conducted research showing piracetam enhances memory and learning significantly more when combined with acetyl-L-carnitine and a cholinergic compound like meclofenoxateor (South, 2014). Human studies find Centrophenoxine restores well-being intellectually. Experimental studies show the drug is effective in reducing deposit of lipofuscin in nerve cells in the brain, improving the mental capacity in individuals with senile dementia and in health adults, also (Fulop et al, 1990). Many scientific experiments have shows decrease of RNA with an increase in age is reversed; RNA increases the turnover of protein and assists in anti-aging (Eternity-medicine.com, 2010).
