Summary
According to the article, God rid me of god; there is a common understanding in the society that for an individual to be a Christian he/she must become a Christian. Modernity has changed the current religious community, hence an emerging church. The current Christianity involves the concept of ‘being’ and ‘destination’. For an individual to remain saved, he only needs to become a Christian and be a member of the church. Christianity is founded on the belief that God’s communication with humankind is through revelation.
Thinkers reasoned out the issue of revelation and concealment arguing that beliefs rely on clear and rational thinking and not instinct, imposed authority or custom. The text also explores the question of ideology and idolatry and their effect on the emerging Christian religion conversation. It tries to explain the concept of idolatry to gain a deeper understanding through the Bible and use of reason. It also explains the concept of theology and the Christians understanding of God.
Opinion
In my opinion, the emerging changes do not aim to change what is believed, but instead the way in which we embrace our beliefs as Christians. Once one is pronounced a Christian there is a tendency to engage in the evangelism process, but apparently, the evangelist as they refer themselves need the evangelism more than the collective individuals. Another issue of concern is revelation and concealment, although Christians claim many revelations in the religion there is so many things left in the dark and unknown to many. The revelation is more of concealment than an actual revealing of issues, while many accept that God appears through nature, prophets, and Christ much about him still lies in concealment. I think of the concept revelation is used in Christianity does not have a direct meaning, but it is used to expound on what is known about God and the mysteries that surround God while letting them remain mysteries.
The concept of idol worship in Christianity raises concern. In the past, the Christian community has always criticized it without letting any ideological explanation. Since the much about God is unknown and every person tries to create an image of God depending on what one strongly believes to be God, people should know that whatever they believe of who God is falls short of who he really is and no image or idol represents God. In theology, people should know that God cannot be limited to one’s relationship with God or the interpretations provided through learning.
