I have always considered the challenge of academic learning and educational achievements an extremely important part of my life. I assume myself an exceptionally fortunate individual who aims to achieve his potential in every phase of life and at all levels. Over the past several years, I have improved myself by growing into an active, self-regulating learner. This personal development has allowed me to enjoy accepting and implementing innovate ideas that I gain knowledge of on a daily basis.
It is not surprising that the contemporary world is becoming a smaller place day by day. It has organized itself globally with the increasing numbers of tangled financial systems and global markets. Therefore, I firmly believe that successfulness in any business demands a solid understanding of finance. I am pursuing the same goal i.e. to become a financial expert in today’s intertwined global economic system. I am already proficient in Economics, Mathematics, and Business studies. However, I sense that the development of a comprehensive and thorough understanding of finance will completely prepare me to undertake any future professional opportunities.
I would like to highlight that I am the first member in my family who has travelled abroad with the purpose of studying. I put tremendous efforts to get transferred to University of California, San Diego from Santa Monica College. It was a tough phase of my life as I had to overcome a lot of obstacles and hurdles during this time period. The most challenging experiences I had included meeting and amalgamating with people of different cultures, learning English, and feelings of loneliness as I had no family member around to encourage me.
I am a Chinese by nationality, and proud to have intense attachment with the traditional Chinese values. Being very close to my parents, I consider them my inspirations. I have chosen to pursue finance as my future profession as I still remember the times my parents made me understand the importance of education in an individual’s life. From a social point of view, I also understand that without acquiring professional knowledge, it would be very difficult for me to survive in the modern-day competitive Chinese society. I believe I must attain plentiful knowledge to live a good life in my country. Moreover, it was during my college years that I found my intense interest in Mathematical Finance area. It is the biggest reason I want to pursue a professional degree in the mentioned field. I believe that the attainment of professional education helps people to live a pleasant life, both psychologically and economically. I am willing to attend Columbia University as it is one of the most renowned educational institutions in the New York City due to its exceptional offers to students for building a productive, professional future.
My aspiration for attending the Columbia University, New York and pursuing a finance degree also stems from a consciousness that the education I have attained as an undergraduate is simply a starting point to acquire the essential finance skills. I understand that specialization in finance is crucial for me to comprehend and employ finance and its technical aspects. I have keenly observed my seniors when I used to work at Qingdao Ruizefa Products Co., Ltd. as an Export Analyst & Accounting Intern. I was impressed by the ways they used to apply their expertise and skills to understand the disciplines. Similarly, I became interested in Finance while working as an Intern (International Trading) at Guangjing Caps Co., Ltd. I am seeking to apply my financial and mathematical knowledge for the resolution of several problems that I could face in my professional life. If the truth is told, I am seeking to acquire the finance degree to introduce innovative concepts and defy the appliance of traditionally accepted rules.
Finance explains normal behaviors of human beings that the financial markets reflect. I believe that the idea concerning the maximization of anticipated outputs and minimization of risks is uncomplicated but breathtakingly influential as it provides an explanation of the ways assets are cherished. I have an interest in the subject as it pleases me to learn about the economic variables and their interaction such as interest rates, inflation, etc. I am also particularly interested in the ways economy works. Moreover, I have a special interest in fiscal market laws, bond markets, pensions and insurance, financial statistics, as well as public debt management. I am also fascinated by this subject as it enables relevant researchers to make the most of the conventional knowledge of various fields such as Statistics and Mathematics. Finance researchers are capable of applying the additional knowledge to support in their explorations and investigations. I also suppose that I possess exceptional quantitative background that would allow me to handle the demanding levels of finance in the future.
As far as my opinion is concerned, I assume that the finance academic still needs much exploration and studying. I also believe that the Columbia University, New York and their relevant financial programs would gear me up with the necessary knowledge and skills that would enable me to comprehend and implement financial theories. Later, I could apply those theories in my professional career as a banker or investor. My dedication and strong-mindedness would allow me to succeed at the Ph.D. program. I also believe that my confidence and coolness will be proficient in contributing to the Columbia University in an efficient manner. Moreover, I am familiar with several computer applications. I have also gained tremendous experience as a school student by participating in several school projects. Such participatory experiences have facilitated me in the development of sharp investigative abilities. I am also confident that I can deal with complicated problems in a comprehensive manner. I am, thereby, looking forward for a chance to apply the mentioned abilities to the vast opportunities that are available at Columbia University.
