Introduction
Currently, college dropouts in particular among the young people are very frequent and devastating. A dream of every academic student is to join postgraduate institutions and further his academics to have his dream job with more employment opportunities. When joining college, every student do have a mission and a goal to achieve setting standards for their achievements at the end of learning period. In the process of learning, not all students are equal as we all come from different societal communities, creating separate social groups in the learning institution. Having this in mind some of the students family backgrounds could interfere with their progress as they were not able to raise the required financial amount to cater for school fees due to the poverty level back at home. Despite the student being ambitious to achieve his dream, some experiences may be highly unbearable for him making him drop out of college and earn a living from a different field such as starting his own business or searching for minor jobs to get income and support his family back at home (Huellstrunk 2012).
In this essay, it is going to discuss why students in colleges drop out of school and become young entrepreneurs. Every student’s wish is to remain in school and complete his academic achievement. At some point circumstances force them to drop out and look for alternatives in life to sustain a living. Today we are living in a very competitive environment full of new technologies and innovations of other modern ideas to rely on for one to meet his targets if he is facing a lot of financial challenges and lack of moral support in and out of the institution. Despite the dream of any achiever, some students were born to be leaders of their own and one can still make it in life without earning a degree certificate, it is not necessary. By considering their favorite motivators, these students get more inspirational knowledge in improving their talents and skills. For example, successful entrepreneurs such as Michael Dell and Bill Gate, who do not have college degrees but are the leading business people in the computer industry(Nemko 2016).
If a student drops out due to insufficient funds, in future he will have no pressure in repaying his school loans and debts as he had not borrowed from any lending institution. In turn, it will be an advantage to him because he is now capable of maintaining himself with the relative amount he earns from his duty and saves the rest. In comparison, those students who acquire loans to complete their college do have difficulties in repaying it back, and it can take as long as fifteen to twenty years to complete the full payment. Starting a small business at a lower age gives more experience to these students getting exposed to the global market despite having little knowledge of business in running the enterprise.
Most of the college students drop out having learned little knowledge reducing their self-esteem to the environment as they do not have a well-defined career path. For instance, a dropout ends up to work in a restaurant a place not worth his career choice earning a small income on it and missing that opportunity to arrive at his goal such as being a doctor. (Smink, 2012). Due to early employment chances for this dropout is that he will get a higher position in the company he is working for as graduates struggle to find a place worth the career they studied as one cannot get a job immediately he completes college.
In my study, students on session stated their different views on dropouts of their colleagues. On the other hand saying that completing college and earning a degree had more advantage and were safe when it comes to job rating (McKeown, 2012). Their reason was that an employee’s salary is determined by his level of academic learning hence those without certificates had fewer salaries.
Another reason they gave was that the dropout had little knowledge on how to maintain the hygiene of the business area and preventive measures that can be used in the line of duty. As for the youths who were already in the job market at an early age argued that after college there were no ready jobs for the graduates, and they had to struggle so hard to get one. This can take them as many as three years making them get into the job market at an older age limiting their potentiality in work retiring early.
Reasons why students drop out in college
Scholars interpretation is that external factors such as low socioeconomic backgrounds for example influence of drug abuse, lack of community resources to support the students leading to low academic grade achievements student get discouraged finally dropping out. Another factor relates to education in term of insufficient counseling, lack of relevant curriculum that fosters on modern education technology, the conflict between home and school culture creating tribalism (Dockery, 2012).
Possible Solutions
After having all these considerations at hand, I can summarize that college education gives a better way in improving entrepreneurial skills and realization of one’s ambitions in the future. An organization called The National Dropout Prevention Center (NCPC) formulated more independent ways that will assist in addressing the problem throughout the nation (Blount, 2012).
The government should formulate the means to supporting both college dropouts and new graduates as currently a degree certificate has nothing to do with a person’s job. It all depends on one's effort in that particular field. The community should also collaborate with the administration to give moral support to the students through contributions giving them a healthy environment for study among others (NDPC, 2016).
In conclusion, we understand that there is no valid answer to preventing school dropouts. Any student in academic sector needs to determine his full potential in a particular field of study that will enable him/her to have some income in the future for a living. Early dropout from school gives one an opportunity to specialize in the industry of his interest such as theater comedy thereby improving their talents and in some earning international scholarship. By regular practice, one will be able to get a business idea on how to become a greater independent entrepreneur in the near future earning him more income as he is the sole proprietor of the business.
