Good Example Of Comparison Of Louis Armstrong’s Recording Of Hotter Than That With Bix Beiderbecke’s Recording Of Singin’ The Blues Essay

Armstrong’s recording of Hotter than that is entirely based on his music prowess. He uses nonsensical syllables but produced solo brilliance which makes the track desirable to the ear and soothing to the heart with a combination of various musical instruments tones such as trumpet, piano, guitar, clarinets and alto saxophone which introduces the track. However, the trumpet dominates the whole track with the sound of other instruments playing distantly in the background. This is boring as there is no smooth flow of the tones. Armstrong’s trumpet solo is characterized by poor quality tones as he plays the notes so lightly that forces you to strain so as to capture the different notes. He seems to jump around the notes as there is no smooth transition between either high, low or medium notes. This track makes me feel like to childishly shake my head and shoulder to the quick changing tune of the trumpet sound that reminiscence my childhood cartoon tone memory.
Bix Beiderbecke’s recording Singin the Blues is a true reflection of great harmonization of musical instruments at best. The sweet and melodious combination of trumpet, clarinets , guitar and Alto saxophones perfectly blend to give quality tones that makes the track memorable. Unlike Armstrong, Beiderbecke notes seem to be next to each other due the sweet and smooth transition of the notes from high to low and medium without letting a single instrument to dominate. The rhythm of the song brightens my hour with every part of my body enjoying such a wonderfully organized track, could not get enough of the dancing and feeling Beiderbecke well-connected magic tones.
Although Armstrong’s band had African-American musicians which would automatically liven the spirit of Jazz music considering it is a fusion of two cultures, African and European, it did not have that much influence on Jazz over Beiderbecke’s band which only comprised of European musicians. The later is more appealing to the jazz music community for its organization and perfection of each of the instruments which fused both African and American culture making it a perfect Jazz. Typically, any jazz music loyalist will desire for something classy and well-toned and having a lasting memory which can be achieved from the sweet rhythm displayed by Beiderbecke in his recording Singin the Blues.
