“Remember the Titans” is a movie based on a real story, focusing on racial integration in American football. The movie features an African American coach for a high school team, and through the movie, there are several scenes where the conflicts that arise. One scene where there is a conflict is when the referee allows players from the other team an unfair advantage and tells off Coach Herman Boone, it was a clear foul for the other side but the referee ignored it (Remember the Titans, 2000). Coach Boone dealt with the conflict by avoiding it, when the referee told him to keep off if he wants to stay any longer in the game, he decides to move aside and keep quiet. By avoiding further confrontation with the referee, the coach was able to avoid the conflict, this happened in the “leave no doubt” scene in the movie, and the boys made the coach proud later by winning (Yakin & Howard, 2016).
The one player who pulled out of the game was black and felt that other players from the other team were targeting him, so after the whistle, he decided to stay out. The situation arose because the coach was black, and some of the players were black. The referee was outright bias towards the team with the blacks, to an extent where a small girl notices, the coach kept quite after the first encounter with the referee (Remember the Titans, 2000). Avoiding a conflict is the best way of dealing with conflicts, and I agree with the style, in the movie, the game was on, and if the coach had not avoided the conflict, the situation might have escalated. When a conflict is avoided, it is easy to handle the situation because the concerned sides do not allow the conflict to escalate; hence resolving the issue will be much easier than facing the conflict. Avoiding conflicts is an effective way of solving the conflicts because you do not allow it to go on, and it dies that way.
