Globalization is rapidly changing the leadership dynamics today. It is considered important for leaders today to change the way they lead, organize and manage their employees. The leadership styles have changed from autocratic to democratic in recent years, and now the shift is towards level 5 leadership, transformational style of leadership and servant leadership practice.
The concept of level 5 leadership was created by Jim Collins. He established that level 5 leaders have humility, and they do not seek success for their own reputation but for their team. Level 5 leadership has changed the dynamics of how leaders deal with the issues because these leaders not only share credit for success, but they are the first ones to accept mistakes. Level 1 requires that an individual should demonstrate high capability in his tasks (Abraham, 2012). Level 2 requires that efficient team members qualities should be demonstrated. Level 3 states that competent managerial skills should be demonstrated, and teams should be organized effectively. Level 4 is the category that most of the leaders fall into to demonstrate their leadership skills. Leader 5 demonstrates a great leader when a leader possesses all of the above four qualities.
The leadership practices are changing, and a refined model of democratic leadership is implemented in the organizations lately This is known as servant leadership that not only focuses on the implementation of democratic culture but also on their subordinates. The servant leadership defines the changing leadership style because it gives importance to all the stakeholders involve for the success of the business (Abraham, 2012).
Today many leaders use transformational style of leadership to communicate the company’s vision to their workforce. This leadership style helps the employees to follow the vision of the organization and to achieve collective success. Transformational leadership style is associated with authority, integrity and charisma (Abraham, 2012). A consistent plan of action will be followed by the HR manager to achieve the vision of the company. This leadership style usually works in situations where the leader has been there for a long time, and a dramatic organizational transformation is needed.
