The skills of project managers have changed over time because of several factors. One of the skills that project managers have had to change is to manage technology. Project managers need to understand the technologies that will be used in most projects. The technology aspect of project managers is an important component that has been incorporated in project management. Another aspect is that of change management. Project managers have to integrate change management aspects to their project management. With the changes that are experienced in projects from time to time, there has been the need to ensure that the project managers can handle these changes (Meredith, & Mantel, 2011).
The changes to the skills and knowledge of project managers is important for business. It is important because, with technology and change management, businesses will be able to improve their projects. Technology and change management are common in most businesses. Without proper management of change, businesses would not be able to go on well. The new changes in skills for project managers is important.
One of the issues that will need to be integrated with the starting of Project Management Office is to have an understanding of the skills that will be integrated. The skills of the staff are an important component. Another thing that would be required is that of good collaboration and cooperation with the senior management. The company will have to understand the requirements and the operations of the office. For this startup, I will consult a consultancy firm. The advantage is that the consultancy firm understand the requirements of the office because they are aware of the trends in this office. A project manager would have to understand the organization first before understanding the aspects that will be required in order to manage the new office. I would, therefore, support the consultancy firm in order to have shorter and professional services from a consultancy firm (Meredith, & Mantel, 2011).
