The video highlight how differing points of view create variation in interpretation of issues. Gender is a critical issue that encompasses many societal issues due to its conscious and unconscious effort of dividing the sexes. One of the most common issues related to gender that is often taken for granted is the concept of activity exposure of children to ‘societally’ accepted toys and activities. Children at a very young age are being molded towards a gender identity through the materials they are being exposed.
Boys and girls have different toys given to them. Boys are usually given cars and action figures while girls are expected to play with dolls and cook sets. This simple gesture of exposing children to simple toys creates their idea of their own gender identity. I agree with the video that society often tolerate simple gestures because at they appear harmless, but in reality they lay out the foundation for a bigger societal impact.
The video highlights how society can be blind to issues that result to its deep plantation to the basic culture of the nation. Societal issues serve as a link toward different prevailing problems, for instance, gender and racial discrimination. The assumptions that society provides much interpretations to problems resulting to diverse stands is true and observable. The video provided time as an example; it is often observed that people have different outlook on time. People tend to value time while some waste it for no apparent reason. It is important as a society to accept that differing views are inevitable and are the essential part of cultural diversity.
