Dear Instructor:
Over the course of this semester, I have learned a great deal about writing to specific audiences and learning about particular tones. Among the new skills that I have cultivated in this course are prewriting, outlining, organization and writing structure, allowing my prose to become much better organized and easy to read than it was before. I have also learned how to use academic journals and university resources to track down reputable, peer-reviewed sources that allow my information to be fully believable and support my points.
Contained within this portfolio is my research paper on homeless children, as well as the annotated bibliography for this same paper. The essay in question is one of my clearest examples of providing a concise and easy to understand structure to a research paper, with all of my information properly cited from secondary sources, and my points structured in a way that provides a flow to the essay itself. The audience for the paper is very evident, and the tone is perfect for said audience. This is also the paper that underwent the most drafts and revisions, showing my ability to take constructive criticism and apply it to my writing. The annotated bibliography also demonstrates my understanding of self-reflective essay organization, as well as the utility of performing academic research on a particular subject and incorporating it into a paper.
Through this portfolio, it is hoped that I can successfully convey the incredible improvements I have made as a writer and research over the course of this semester. I hope it will meet with your approval.
Sincerely:
