Section 1: Introduction and Description
Recently I had an honor of being part of a seminar on Red and Grey Design by Bob Gray, who embarked on educating the audience on designs and process involved. The speaker, Bob Gray made a point of emphasizing the importance of design and creativity in these times of the modern era where everything is revolving around technology and innovation. The speaker said that creativity goes hand in hand with designing. Also, the speaker explained the importance of using all senses to understand and connect with nature hence bringing out perfect designs and models from the pictures and moments humans always encounter. Also, the speaker stipulated the importance of understanding the needs of our target audience and draw perfect designs in accordance their specifications. Also, in the seminar, the speaker outlined the need to determine the revenue sources, the users of the designed product and how the product’s information reaches the appropriate audience.
Section 2: Reflection
In the talk the speaker made us note the importance of keeping a sober and open mind which would enable us to be able to identify the opportunities for design surrounding us which would enable us to make future designs (design in everyday life, 2003). In the seminar, Bob Gray defines a designing process as an innovative and open-minded process of learning by taking action and trying to connect imagination with an aim of enhancing business success. From the seminar, I understand the importance of sharing information amongst each other through narrations and conversations to enhance joint growth among us in making this world a better place by applying design and creativity. The speaker made me understand the importance of putting an extra hand in making the presentation of the design perfect since it reflects the image of the plan to eye. Hence, presentation of a model determines the revenue the design is going to earn (Schechter, 2010). Also to capture the market which in turn tends to create the market for design, a unique logo that expresses the whole picture of the plan and distinguishes the design from the already existing ones. Through Bob Grays’ guidance, I came to understand a design’s logo should represent the emotion trying to be brought out, and the emotion should be based on concept and realism. Branding acts as a trademark, such that it shows a unique personality, value, promise and the vision of the venture. The brand ensures that there is continuity in the design such that the stakeholders who experience or see or purchase it can derive the value of the project as the years’ elapse. The logo acts as an effective branding method since it portrays uniqueness and innovativeness which makes the product stand out in the market. The speaker made me understand the importance of having passion and interest when undertaking a particular hobby or practice since the interest drives us into creating great designs.
Section 3: Relevance to the Course
The seminar has proved to be quite beneficial, especially when related to the course am taking which is a Masters in International Business, since it has helped me look at things and nature from different angles other than how the world views them. International Business gives an insight into existing problems, the opportunities that can be ventured in, the things surrounding oneself, the needs of the people around you and the theme of nature that is the recurrent observations. The seminar helped me be able to open my eyes wider in analyzing the global business environment in a broader and more detailed perspective. Besides, I can be able to relate the emerging world trends to the theoretical illustration and be able to analyze and present reports based on design applied and the final output derived from the plan.
Section 4: Comments
Personally, I express my gratitude to the speaker of the day Bob Gray for the educative speech. Over my study time I have encountered challenges when it comes to coming up with perfect designs, but now thanks to Bob Gray, I can create perfect logos and designs. The guidelines the speaker stipulated in the speech, for example, the P.O.I.N.T.S (Problems, Opportunities, Insights, Needs and Themes) strategy in creating good designs is quite beneficial. The value of the approach is that it enables an individual to analyze issues critically. The speaker delivered an excellent speech that can be useful to potential designers.
