Drug trafficking is a form of slavery that is rampant in America. Some people across the nation are contemplating on legalizing the vice which is detrimental to the society. Drug trafficking, as the article argues, has its advantages after legalization and its disadvantages. The article argues that legalizing the slavery of drug trafficking in America would be beneficial to the society. Legalizing drug trafficking would make life less risky and for free. The case argues that the money that will be collected from the legalization of drug trafficking can be reinvested back to the economy to assist in improving the life status of the people held captive by the drugs. The case argues that legalizing the slavery of drug trafficking would save a great deal of money that is otherwise lost during the operation of the drug trafficking illegally.
Growth of the economy would benefit the people who have been held slavery by drugs. The case argues that by economic growth life for everybody would be better off. The case also argues that legalization will help even those in bondage of the slavery experience the economic growth that comes with legalization. The case compares drug trafficking slavery with plantation slavery. The case argues that drug trafficking is spread from generation to generation and that the older generation passes on the vice to the preceding generation. The case also compares drug slavery to plantation slavery. The case argues that, similar to plantation slavery drug trafficking depletes off the social resources available to people and community at large. Some of these social resources include family togetherness, relations and values.
It is, therefore, prudent according to the article to legalize drug trafficking in America. The case also argues that by legalizing the menace of drug trafficking, drugs would be cheap and available to many people in the economy. This implies that the profit that is used as a reward for crime is removed and eliminated from the business. It is presented in the case that the users would now turn to be useful addicts as the drugs would be available to all and for a small amount of money. The case argues that the money that is spent in maintenance of jails would not be needed and the savings made would be useful in helping people become drug free.
However, this argument is contrasted sharply with that of not legalizing drug trafficking. The argument prohibiting drug trafficking legalization is based on the principle that the traffickers would use this chance to increase the prices, as well as the market base of the product. The legalization would make the whole nation a drug infested nation which would deter development and economic growth. Drug trafficking legalization would increase crime as people would not be in their right states of minds at most times due to the effect caused by the drugs. Furthermore, drug trafficking in the ghetto areas would become rampant leading to increased poverty and ill behavior amongst the people living in the slums. In conclusion, the case study concludes that is detrimental to legalize drug trafficking.
In my own opinion, drug trafficking should not be legalized in any nation and more importantly in America. There are numerous and adverse effects both in individuals and the society that are brought about by the effects of drugs on people. The effects cannot be ignored, and to grow the economies of our countries to a higher level, drug trafficking should be completely banned.
