Illegal Immigrants in Arizona
Illegal Immigrants in Arizona
Part 1
Introduction
Illegal immigration has emerged as one of most debated issues of the United States of America. America is considered as land of opportunities and this image of America attracts thousands of immigrants every year. Immigrants wish to enter into America at any cost. They make all legal and illegal efforts to reach America. Such influx of illegal immigrants has caused various problems for citizens in different parts of the United States of America. Phoenix, the capital of Arizona has been facing various issues due to heavy influx of illegal immigrants. This paper intends to discuss the issue of illegal immigrants along with discussing how and in what ways illegal immigration affects phoenix, Arizona.
Increase in incidents of illegal immigration affects phoenix in different ways. Different sections of Arizonian societies have started raising their voices on the issue of illegal immigration. The issue of illegal immigration has also gained support from various political leaders. Some of them have even raised made this issue in state elections. Arizona people have been complaining about repercussions of illegal immigration (Brezina, 2010).
Awareness of the Audience
Phoenix people have been raising issues created by illegal immigration and have suggested that illegal immigrants are slurping the employment opportunities of Arizonian citizens. They say that illegal immigrants are ready to work in very less payment and they are easily hired by companies. In case of hiring illegal immigrants, companies also are not liable to abide by any labor laws or bound to provide all benefits that are otherwise mandatory. Such trend deprives phoenix citizens of jobs because they demand higher wages and various other benefits. Companies prefer hiring illegal immigrants and not phoenix citizens because it reduces cost of companies without much liabilities (Zavodny, 2007).
Many of Arizonian citizens have been complaining about increasing incidents of criminal activities in phoenix and other parts of Arizona. Phoenix citizens allege that illegal immigrants are involved in various criminal activities. Increased involvement of illegal immigrants in incidents of theft, burglary, carjacking and snatching suggest that people of Arizona are suffering because of them. Illegal immigrants have organized various gangs and they operate these gangs in a dangerous manner. Illegal immigrants do not have any specific identity and it becomes difficult for police to nab them in various cases.
Illegal immigrants cost much as they avail services of state education, hospitals and transport system. Costly legal proceedings also cost much after illegal immigrants are caught by the police. Even if these immigrants are caught and sent behind bars, they cost a lot. Keeping a prisoner in Arizona prisons for twenty days costs approximately sixteen hundred dollars. This huge money is taxpayers’ money and keeping prisoners in state prisons is a total waste of public money.
Illegal immigrants fire the forest and uninhabited areas in order to make them inhabitable for themselves. These people destroy forest and wildlife that affects the environment of Arizona in a considerable manner. Thousands of acres are destroyed by illegal immigrants in the state of Arizona by illegal immigrants between years 2002 and 2007. Illegal immigrants produce enormous amount of trash in areas where0 they reside. The biggest issue with this trash is that it is not properly disposed and create threats for sewage system and environment of the state of Arizona.
Solution
There should be change in existing laws and illegal immigrants should be stopped at the first stage that is the entry into United States of America. It is shameful that a nation that claims to be the most powerful and technically advanced, cannot prevent some illegal immigrants from entering into United States of America. There should be strict monitoring of illegal immigrants and all probable entry points must be made secured. Illegal immigrants must not be employed by public or private organizations.
Some steps are necessary on parts of governments, but at the same time, people also have a sincere role to play in order to solve this issue because this issue affects them directly and considerably. Phoenix citizens must inform appropriate authorities immediately in case they come to know about any illegal immigrant. People must avoid employing illegal immigrants in their houses, shops or otherwise in the greed of cheap labor. Employing illegal immigrants may appear cheap but it has been observed that employers of illegal immigrants suffer the consequences (Gans et al., 2012)
Politics is not good on such issues. Politicians should understand that the issue of illegal immigrants affects the citizens of Arizona in different negative ways. A massive demonstration was organized in the phoenix when a law was imposed by state in the year 2010 in order to trace illegal immigrants and stop them. This legal provision was popularly known as “Show me your papers”. When this provision was implemented various organizations and politicians opposed this law. However the provision was permitted by the US Supreme Court after a controversy broke out on this issue but politics on such issues may create dangerous results for the people of Arizona (Mears, 2012)
Convincing Evidence
There should be a thorough and foolproof system to check illegal immigrants. State authorities and individuals have similar responsibilities to check illegal immigrants. Employment process should be made tougher and illegal immigrants should not be able to get employments without establishing their identity. Illegal immigrants usually get employment opportunities in farms, filling stations, restaurants, mines and in private houses. Now people of phoenix and other parts of Arizona will have to decide whether they want illegal immigrants slurping their benefits into their state or want them out of their state.
Alternative solutions / Summary of concerns
Companies that employ illegal immigrants by overlooking all risks and considering short time benefits must think seriously on this issue. Employment opportunity is like oxygen for illegal immigrants. They cannot sustain without working because a majority of them have not anything else to do. They are always ready to work in a very lesser amount and companies hire them because of this aspect only. Companies pay them very low wages and exploit them to gain maximum from illegal immigrants. Such trend should be stopped in order to solve the issue of illegal immigrants in the state of Arizona.
A Call to Action
This issue affects the interests of Arizonians and all Americans either directly or indirectly. The time has come to consider the issue more seriously and take stern actions to improve the situation. Strict monitoring of all entry points can help a lot in improving the situation. All law enforcement agencies including border patrol and police should be more sensitized on the issue of illegal immigration. Borders should be monitored and people who appear doubtful should be prevented and checked very often.
Only law enforcement agencies cannot check the issue of illegal immigrants and people have a bigger role in improving the issue. Companies or individuals should refrain from employing illegal immigrants. If illegal immigrants will not be given any opportunity of employment by people of Arizona, illegal immigration is bound to stop. Illegal immigrants are slurping benefits of Americans and this is high time to put an absolute curb on the issue of illegal immigrants.
Part 2
Illegal immigrants face a number of problems in staying in Arizona but they still keep going to Arizona at any cost. Legal norms of immigration are very tough and it becomes difficult for immigrants to get work visa in the United States of America. The condition of their own countries is so sporadic that they cannot sustain there and have no option except migrating into rich nations. America becomes the first target due to various reasons. People are ready to do anything to get into America (Greenblatt, 2014).
People marry American nationals in order to get entry into America because entering into America and getting American citizenship is very difficult. Marrying American male or female is a short cut of getting American citizenship. America has an image of land of opportunities. America is also seen as a rich state where people live with liberty and peace. People rush towards America due to a number of reasons. Many people flee to America for employment opportunities while many of them also flee to America due to religious intolerance into their nations (Rau et al., 2010).
The population of illegal immigrants has been dropped considerably in recent years. a report released from Departent of Homelend Security suggests that there were half a million illegal immigrants in the state of Arizona in the year 2008 but this number has decreased to 360000 in the year 2011. Such huge decline in the population of illegal immigrants has been observed due to a variety of reasons. various organizations and individuals have raised their voices against the illegal immigrants. State authprities also have concentrated on the issue as it affects the imterest of the state in many ways.
Joint efforts of Border patrol,Department of Homeland Security, state authorities and a number of aware individuals have contributed significantly in improving the situation. Illegal immigrants have started leaving the state of Arizona and they are entering into other parts of America. This issue is not solved yet and needs attention from American policymakers. te issue needs to be checked at federal, as well as, state levels. People can come into america, and they can even earn their livelihood but through appropriate process only. Illegal immigrants do not believe in any process, but at the same time, they believe in availing all benefits and facilities that others do.
