Of the three designs, the one I thought was the most versatile and offered the most was Destination St. Pete Pier. First of all, it is beautiful. The inverted pyramid gives the pier a unique look, while also being a practical use of space. It also maximizes the view of the water. The deck is multi-layered and there are well placed trellises, allowing for maximum shade for pedestrians who need a minute out of the sun. There is plenty of space for fishing on the multiple levels as well. It is also nice that cars can drive up to the building. This will allow those who are elderly or handicapped, and who otherwise could not walk all the way out, to be able to enjoy the pier as well.
The design allows for multiple economic opportunities, both for businesses and for the city. First of all, the event areas have the potential to be a huge money maker for the city. With the location being over the water, and as beautiful as it is, many people will want to have weddings and other major events in the event areas. I looked up similar venues in the Tampa Bay area, and $750 for four hours was fairly typical pricing, with venues closer to the water costing more (Marry Me Tampa Bay Wedding Blog & Planning Site n.p.). This would create a large revenue for the city. Of course, this would open up a lot of jobs, which would have an economic impact. With three different dining options and spaces to rent out to other businesses, this will easily open fifty or more new jobs. Not only that, for every $1 spent in Florida restaurants, $.94 in sales for the state economy is generated (National Restaurant Association n.p.).
